My son's hearing is fine we have had it tested. He just seems to have selective hearing these days. Is this a stage most 10 year olds go through.

I am satisfied with our relationship so far. He takes gr8 care of the baby. And for the past few weeks he has been sending me fresh flowers. But when he comes back from Iraq, he will be stationed in Tennessee. I stay back in Iowa. I wanna be with him. I want us to move to the next level. Would I be making a bad decision by moving in with him? So far away?

you say you dont trust anyone (a man you just met) to be alone with your kid(s)/baby after just meeting him for a few weeks, however, is it not the same as leaving the child with a babysitter that you just met for a few minutes?
Not sure if babysitting has changed but when I was a kid and mom and dad wanted to go out but no leave me alone they might have a teen come and stay with me. A teen they didnt really know much about.

we live in an apartment and my three year old daughter was in trouble for trying to bite me, I turned off her cartoons and she was throwing a tantrum. the next thing I know my neighbor was knocking on my door so that she could give my daughter and ice cream and tell her to start being good. this really made me mad. my question is should I of said something for her butting in? should I say something now? It was really none of her business that i was punishing my child but she seemed to think it was. This isn't the first time she has butt into my children's lives. We aren't even friends. How would you handle this situation?

My stepson is very disrespectful to me. He has made it very clear to me that he moved here ( 2 1/2 months ago) to live with his dad in his dads house, and that his dad is his only parent in this house. He made a comment in front of my brothers wife, "I don't have to listen to my stepmom. My dad is my only parent here." When I tell him to do something, he waits till I turn my back and then goes outside or to watch TV. He has a very smartmouth to me. I did tell my husband and he sat him down and told him that the way he treated me was unacceptable and would not continue. He told his dad that I made him mad all the time (telling him what to do, making him do chores, etc.) He doesn't do this stuff in front of his dad, so I know it will just continue when my husband isn't around, it always does. I have tried to talk to him myself, but he just looks at me with a confused look and lets it go in one ear and out the other. What do I do to get more respect from him?

I'm a mom myself (of a 4-year old boy). (If I had a girl, I don't know where I'd shop for her.)

I read Abercrombie and Fitch offers thongs for girls as young as seven! Their spokesman, Hampton Carney, says, "It's cute and fun and sweet." Shouldn't they have a female spokesperson responding to this query? This sounds so much creepier coming from a guy, any guy. (Maybe A&F stopped doing this since this blog posting in 2004?)

A big deal was made about this on Oprah quite a while back. This woman claimed she loved her spouse more than her children, and the reaction was mostly negative with a lot of people asking, why she was even bothering to compare the loves. Even on the message boards the reaction was a mix of positive and negative.

So what do you think? Who do you love more, your children or your spouse?

I hear sometimes about people bringin their children to work not like kid to work day or something but often and this sounds redundent because this has the equivalent distraction about bringing a animal into a school because it would be distracting and slow down work so I am not shure why people do it but if they cant afford daycare maybe the parents should consider getting different job intervals to me this just seems annoying so why do people do this

I have been a working mom (RN) and am continuing with a masters degree. My husband stayed home for the last 6 months but had to go back to work do to an injury I sustained. Now I have to return to work next week and I do not want to! This is the first time I have been home full time with my kids. I also homeschool and just really missed being with them, the kids have even become more manageable since I have been home with them. I do not want to go back to work! Is this a normal feeling? SHould I tell my hubby that I want to stay home full time or should I just go back the feeling wil pass? Help!

I see a lot of people here claim that parents who spank their children are "stupid", uncreative, and teaching violence. Care to provide credible links, or even anecdotal tales, and not just emotions?

Lets look at back in the day, when there was corporal punishment, prayer, and structure in the school systems...and most homes. I was the last of this generation (I'm a child of the 80's) and let me tell you, I NEVER talked back in school, no one blew up our schools, I NEVER disrespected any adult...especially not my parents!! God forbid! and you damn right I was afraid, but it was a HEALTHY fear. While I knew better than to sass my elders, I also knew how to properly address them, and I was loved dearly and spankings were few and far between. Not the only method of discipline used.

So I guess my mother was stupid. I guess my old teachers and principal were stupid. I feel I got a good foundation in life, on the contrary. I learned RESPECT. I learned discipline. Far from stupid IMO.

You need one to own a dog, so why do we place more value on the life of a pet than we do our children?

The 6 yr old grandson of the people across the street came over to play today. My 6 year old let him in while I was in the shower. (BigNo No answering the door I know) While I was showering they took the mattress off her bed, put peanut butter in the sink and pretty much trashed the playroom. I told them to go in there and clean up the play room and then the boy was going home. While I was cleaning the mess they made in the other bathroom they got out the scissors and he cut my daughters waist length hair. I was irate (and in tears) when I went to check the progress of their clean up. He said my daughter asked him to cut her hair. She denied it. I marched them both across the street and told the grandmother what happened/ She said I am really sorry but "Where'd he get the scissors?"
My daughter does alot of crafts and has several pairs of scissors. I am a hairstylist and she has never cut her own hair. The grandmother said since I was so upset the boy wouldn't be over again.

Why would they say that?

I am 23 years old.

I have lived on my own since 18 and have had a full time job since I graduated high school.

I put myself thru college and landed an amazing job in accounting.

I have NEVER asked for money from anyone.

I have been continually employed since I was 15 years old.

I own a house that will be paid off next year.

I have two brand new cars paid off.

I have traveled all over the United States.

I have never done drugs, smoked or partied.

I never drink.

I have been with my husband for 5 years and he is the only sexual partner I have ever had.

I am a good friend and an even better sister, daughter and wife.

I ask questions about wanting to start a family with my husband and I get a bunch of responses about how I am too immature at 23 to be a mom.

How many 30 year olds have accomplished what I have???

I am sick of being judged by my age! I don't even act like I am in my early 20's!
