For same reason our misses the toilet at times due to getting up in the middle of the night and sleepy or in the day because he is in a hurry and does not pay attention. I will take it that it is a boy - because I have never known girls to do this - correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, try implementing him to help you clean the bathroom. I have 3 boys in the house ages 9,10 and 15. They love to help and can be stubborn at times - but it will work. When we have bathroom day (2 full bath in the house and 1 1/2 bath) - everyone chooses a project or draws out of the jar and we help each other accomplish the task! Good Luck!
The younger ones take turns cleaning the floor and toilet with me once a week, now it is getting better as they are now paying attention. Less clean up!

Don't abuse him. That will only complicate matters, and you shouldn't feel good for beating him.
Take him to a child psychologist.
Why do you not start a question with a capital letter?
Is your nine year old a human, cat, dog or what? Maybe you can come back and add details to this question. Is there any other misbehavior? Have you ever abused your child, you or your husband? How has he tested in the achievement tests?

I'm 40 and hell sometimes I miss! Why do I do it? I don't turn the light on, I misjudge the angle, I'm a little sleepy, I'm not the man I once was....
Why don't you ask him. ...and are you saying he misses the toilet (if his father never does this consider yourself a very rare and fortunate woman), or are you saying the boy (or girl, I guess) get stands up (or squats down) and dribbles on the floor?
Ask him to be more careful.

That's too funny, my older sister would stand in the middle of her bed and pee on it till she was about that age just because she was mad and could do it... i'm glad she finally quit, but then again, i don't think her hubby would tell everyone if she was still doing it, lol.

Well if you want him to stop treat him like a baby have him wear depends/diapers and spoon feed him baby food. In a high chair. Then make him sleep in a crib and make him watch Barney. It may sound harsh butt do it until he cracks. It works.
Oh yeah have him wear swimmies in the swimming pool

It's probably a medical problem. Take him/her to the doctor right away. Don't punish the child, take him/her to the doctor. I'm sure this is really embarrassing for the child, and if it's a bladder infection, then those can really be painful.

It is more than likely a cry for attention or a lapse of judgement. Mine did it once. He said it was because he did not want to miss what he was watching on TV. He was punished and it never happenend again.

I'm sorry, I am laughing at your problem. I would guess that he is trying to get your attention. Do not acknowledge this behavior. Give him a time out, clean up the mess and reward with praise and praise when he uses to potty.

Because you do not discipline him the right way so that he does not do it again ( i am not saying to hit him or anything like that) but you need to make consequences for his actions that will make him not want to do it again (take away something he likes to play with until he can learn to stop)
