Yes, it is only a stage. Just get his attention, you know him best. Once you are for sure you have it, then tell him what you want him to know. Kids also have selective forgetfulness too!!!

Yes, it is a stage they go through. They hear you just fine, they just don't listen. I hate to say it but judging from my husband I would say that some boys never grow out of it.

I don't have a 10 year old (yet) but at 3 mine has caught on to this 'problem' a little early. I'm sure he can hear you just fine. Use an alternate language with him - the silence of no electronic equipment/phone/friends/etc
AKA grounded. He'll listen or he'll become a hermit!

Yes it's a stage. I remember when I went through this same phase when I was 10, a good healthy dose of the wooden spoon to my backside did wonders to suddenly improve my hearing.

It's a stage that most kids go through, whether they are boys or girls, I know, I've had both.
I think selective hearing continues from that time on until death, especially if you get married.

yes, its a stage. my daughter is nine and going through the same thing. especially when the tv or radio is on. i have to shut them off and make eye contact with her. if i don't think she heard me then i ask her to repeat what i said. if she can't then i tell her to listen b/c i'm going to say it again and she will have to repeat what i say. if i have to repeat again then she gets a consequence. 10 mins off tv or early bed... etc. it seems to be working and she tries harder to pay attention. she's worse when she has friends over and tries to act cool. none of her friends like me because i won't allow her to disrespect me and even they will get time outs if necessary. i don't really care if they like me or not. my daughter and her behavior is the one who matters.
sorry this ran on. yes its a phase. put your foot down or the phase will go on forever. lol. it is getting better.

Yop are just gearing up for about 8 years of it. Then some day he'll be calling you for advice and you can tease him about it. Relax. They grow up way too fast. And a swift kick in the butt will help. Ha.

Most young children only hear what they want to hear and some adults do the same thing.

Yes, I think all kids go through this (boys at about 10, girls at about 16)
It will pass-good luck!
