Are the rigors of parenting suspended whenever families with young kids enter restaurants, especially nice sit-down restaurants (not necessarily 4 or 5 star)?

Honestly, quite a number let their offspring scream, holler, run all over the restaurant, disturbing other diners, annoying the heck out of the staff, make huge messes, etc..

When I was a kid, that kind of stuff wasn't tolerated or else we were gonna get it when we got home.

So what happened? How did we come to this? I like to hear from others who have had to put up with this whenever you went out to eat. Or maybe from parents who allow this sort of thing (yes, PLEASE, share your wisdom). I'd also like to hear from waiters/waitresses/managers (both former and present). I'd like to hear from all sides.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

I'm having trouble coming up with party ideas for my soon to be 6yo daughter. The past few years it's either been Peter Piper Pizza or a party at home. We do have a pool at our townhome complex and it is warm enough to swim, but I was looking for other ideas outside of that and pizza places. Our home gets pretty uncomfortable (temperature wise) with a lot of people over--in October it's still over 100 degrees outside! Local pools have closed by then though, as have splash pads. Ideas?

my son recently "forgot" what the word "no" means. he used to listen and would stop the action if we said "no!" firmly...now..forget about it. i tried popping his hand when he would get into stuff, but if i did that everytime, i would pop his hand 1000 times a day and i don't want to do that. i've tried telling him "no" and showing him what he is allowed to play with, but he goes back to the computer keyboard (for example)...i've put most everything up out of his reach...but somethings you can't...also he hits me and whoeverelse is holdin him in the face...how do i stop this behavior?

I see all these alternative punishments. How many of your parents did this instead of spanking you?

I have a daughter she is almost 8 years old and I have been noticing her body changing. Is it too soon for her to start her cycle? She is very tall and about 90 lbs. I know I started when I was 10 years old. Could she be getting ready?

What do you think of spanking as a punishment. If you have ever been spanked what was it for and how were spanked and where were you and how old were you. Thank you! I will tell you mine in an additional detail.

I'm starting to wonder if I offered too much for the day. I'm going to be paying this neighbor of mine, a stay at home mom, $50 tomorrow. She'll have the kids from about 5:50am til about 3. She's going to watch the kids at my house. She can eat here. My kids are 6 and 9. What would you pay her for the day? I'm starting to wonder if $50 is too much.

I'm a single father of a 5 year old and I find it difficult to set up a 'play group' for my son for his peers because I, mostly, am contacting single mother who assume I'm trying to 'hit on them' by using my kid! So, to avoid this, I thought why couldn't some single fathers and their kids get together in a park/playground/fun center so that the kids can play and interact with each other. Would this seem too weird for men to do? Why?

I'm taking my 3 kids camping this weekend with my parents, while hubby stays home (he has to work, and is NOT a camper!). I'm wondering what all I should pack for the kids to keep them busy & occupied. It's a small private peice of land that was given hook up's and what not that my dad's boss owns. It's not a traditional campground- no playground, no camp store, no basketball court, etc. It's on a river, but it's one that isn't suitable for swimming (at least at that spot).

So, what should I take or pack for them? I have not taken them camping since I was pregnant with my youngest, and my middle child didn't do well (he was only 2), so we have not done this before. My kids are 10, 7, and 4. Any idea's?

My husband and I want to have two children before I turn 30.

We have been together for 5 years and are emotionally and financially stable with a house that will be paid off next year.

I want to get pregnant in a few months when I am 24 and have my first baby when I am almost 25.

I want to have my second baby about 2-3 years later, so by the time I am 28 I will be finish.

If my husband and I decide to have a third baby then I will still have time before I am 30 to get pregnant again.

When people find out my age they think its crazy that I want to have children so “soon”.

Seriously, what is wrong with having wanting to be done with pregnancies at 30?

Is it so abnormal to have children in your 20’s now a days????

Ok, let me tell a bit of the background: My sister-in-law has 2 kids (ages 6 & 1) and she doesn't work because she "doesn't like to". She's been on welfare ever since her first was born and hasn't stayed in once place very long. She's moved in with several men after only knowing them for a short time, dragging the kids with her and teaching the oldest one to call each of them daddy. She hollers, screams, and will pawn the kids off on anyone willing to watch them at the moment...

Now, I know she's not the greatest mom, but what REALLY concerns me is that she has once again moved. This time she is in a run down trailer (her dad's house) where the roof leaks and there a TON of roaches. There are 8 people living in the 2 bedroom trailer. The place is beyond dirty with holes in the walls and floors and the kids are forced to sleep either on the floor, couch, or share a bed with their mom.

So, my question, how bad does it have to be before you would get social services involved?
