Is everyone who is answering parenting questions in here a parent?

I am just curious because I see all of these answers about don't spank and crap like that well some kids need to be spanked and I was spanked and I turned out just fine and I am sure that everyone else on this site who was spanked turned out just fine!! I thank my mom for spanking me because it made me realize what I was doing wrong!!

No offense to those who say no spanking but maybe it doesn't work for some kids like my daughter perhaps some days she is a little angel and other days she won't listen worth a crap and I do spank on those occasions!! I am not ashamed to admit it!!

It hurts me worse to spank her than it does for her to get spanked too!! But if it is the last resort I will do it!!! NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT!!

I don't think that spanking teaches them to hit others if you let them know why you are spanking them and let them know that hitting is wrong and the only reason you are spanking them is because they are doing something that they are not supposed to be doing. There is a HUGE difference there!!

Spanking is not a lazy way out because when you try all different methods with your kid and it doesn't work the last resort is to spank!! I have tried other methods with her but some do work at times and I don't have to but spanking is MY LAST RESORT!!!!!

I'm a mom to 2 boys ages 17 and 15. After reading some of the answers here, I have come to the conclusion that I am either the worst mother alive or I have birthed 2 of the foulest creatures alive. Since I really don't believe either one of those things, I have to say, what's wrong with spanking your child? You can tell me I'm lazy or I'm not keeping them busy, whatever you want, I know when I have done my level best and my kids still needed more. That's when I spank. Of course at their ages now, spanking is a non-issue but it was part of the day to day back when.

I am a mom of 4. Three older and 1 younger. All would have chosen spanking over the lecture and corner. One time we was going to let them choose their own punishment. They chose spanking, my husband and I looked at each other and them then said why? Because they could go out and play. It would all be over with. Now from a child's mouth spanking is the quickest way for a child to be punished but means little. A boring lecture on the other hand with them sitting there is forever. No screaming and yelling on the part of the parent. Emphasizing is fine. Kids love the chair in the corner thing, not. To many other ways to correct children use capitol punishment for the last straw not as the first. You are just hitting because you lost control of yourself then.

I am not exactly a parent but i have been helping raise my nephew so I know how to answer certain Q's ...and I agree with you that spanking is necessary sometimes with a child it is the only way to make a child realize that they are doing something wrong. By spanking a child you are not hurting them you only insulting them and that is why they freak out and cry after you spank them....I understand that some ppl dont believe in it and that is fine but once you become a parent or a parent of some kind you realize that sometimes it really is needed.

I am a parent...I was spanked and turned out just fine. There is nothing wrong with spanking your kids. It talks about it in the Bible.

Violators will be prosecuted (spanked)

If you ever get a chance to watch Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail...he said that parents need to go back to that game when kids tend to act up...called Tear That *** Up. Spanking is a last resort that I use. But I got my butt tore up when I was younger and glad that I did.

I am a parent, and dont agree with spanking. I might feel like giving my little one a good spanking now and then when I'm really mad, but I know that it would be wrong to do, because it really is only about making the adult feel better. If spanking really worked, then you would only have to do it once.

I totally agree with you, My daughter will be 3 in september and the terrible 2's are getting worse everyday now and Sometimes i have to spank her when she doesn't listen! If she is getting into stuff or doing something shes nots suppose to be doing or if she wont take a nap, i give her 3 warnings and if she still hasn't listen after the 3rd warning, then she gets a spanken and sent to her room or has to sit in time-out for 3 minutes! I was physically abused by my mother when i was really little, then my dad and step mom raised me til i graduated high school, and my dad and step mom hardly used the spanking method they would just make me and my step brother sit in time out or sent us to our rooms. So Sometimes i hate to spank my daughter, but you know sometimes it actually works!

i WAS Never spanked and I grew up just fine. This is how I am raising my son. No Hitting and No spanking. There is Never a reason to put your hands on Anyone Especially your own kid.

if you think that some kids need to be spanked this is smiply not true. I think it's that you just might not have to patience to deal with a potential unruly kid and you just loose your temper.

Eitherway...If that worked for you to be spanked and now you are spanking your kids...see the pattern???

My question would be do any of these people who make statements about parenting actually have children. Doctor Spock wrote book after book about raising children never having had any of his own and then had to apologize later for being wrong about what he had written.
My mom and dad spanked me in love. They didn't beat me or discipline me because they were mad or angry and I survived and am a much better person in this world for it then some of the people I grew up with that went into time out and ended not acting very well.

Go on and spank, but look for other solutions other than hitting the child, if you have to spank more than once, the spanking obviously did not work since you are having to redo the punishment. Yes, I have a child, and work with them on behaivoral issues for a living. Spanking works temporarily, but never long term. And don't be shocked when your child hits others, they have learned it from you...

I am one of the ones who posts against spanking.
I was spanked as a kid.
I think spanking is wrong.
I am a parent.
I have three kids.....ages 7.5 years, 5.5 years and 3.5 years.

EDITED TO ADD:
No offense.....but maybe you just haven't been patient enough or creative enough to try other methods of parenting. IMO, spanking is the lazy way out and is demeaning to the child.

AND ANOTHER THING.....

SO...in other words hitting is wrong UNLESS you think it is right or you are bigger or you don't like what the other person is doing. YEAH.....no double standard there, is there? "Sweetie.....I'm only hitting you because you deserve it."
