Does anyone else ever feel this way. I'm a 30 year old mother to a 9 year old boy. And I think I'm a pretty good one, he's kind, smart, athletic and respectful. However sometimes I can't believe that I'm a mom, somebody's boss, a person of authority. Its the strangest feeling, like, "who do i think i am". Am i the only one who thinks like this? I'm sure I sound nuts, but i assure you, i'm not!

My daughter has chicken pox but they have crusted over and she is no longer contagious.
Her best buddy is having a party tomorrow , should I take her? She is not sick in anyway just has spots.
If you where a mother/father at the party what would you think/say about my child being there with her spots still noticable but crusted over? Would you think she was still contagious? would you say anything? would you let your child play with her?

I'm 20 years old, i just graduated from a 2 year college, i just started a nice well paying job a few days ago...and I have a 15 month old child.....i think it's about time that I get my own place, I get excited just thinking about it, but I'm also scared, I'm scared that i might fail or something bad happens and I get fired from my job, then I won't be able to find another good paying job....then i won't be able to pay the rent and then I'll get kicked out, and have to live back at home....I feel like i should just jump out there and see what happens, but it's scary to do that when i have a small child that i need to take care of...what do you think I should do??? and no, I don't sponge off of my parents, I've always helped pay bills since i was 17, I've always worked 2 jobs to make sure my mom wasn't always busting her a$%......i went to college to make sure i can provide a great future for my son.

(or having your child nursed if you are a man).

I stumbled upon this video and it was really interesting to me. I know I couldn't nurse that long, but I still was fascinated by the extended nursing. I don't think it's "wrong" to nurse until that age, but I was interested in seeing the cultural differences in the responses.

Here is the video:

Civil answers only please. Don't be a jerk in your response. Feel free to share your opinion either way, but be adult about it please.

I live in OH. My neice lives in KY. She will be 11 yrs old in May.
My mother has had custody of my neice since she was 2 weeks old. My mother has just pleaded guilthy in court to child dependency in KY. They go back for the 2nd hearing in April.
The birth mother now after all of these yrs wants custody of my neice. My neice does not want to live with her birth mother. The birth mother admits she cannot afford the child, her bf hits her younger daughter, her children have been picked up by police and taken to their school because they got lost walking to the school by themselves (they are 9 and 7). Her court appt'd attorney thinks it is time to reunite her with her " family " whom have not been there for years! She doesnt want to even see the people.
My husband and I are the only ones who can afford her, have a nice big enough home, live in a good school district. She is always with us. What are my chances? Can she come to OH from KY?

My mother is hard to please and thinks the first name and middle name we chose for our daughter are “older” names and don’t sound like names that people use now a days. She thinks we should have picked something more modern.

We chose the name Olivia Grace and we still plan to use it because WE love the name and don't care about her opinon.

Did you parents like the name you chose for your child? Did you stick with the original name you picked out?

Before you ask, no I don't have kids and the more I see of them, the more I'm glad I don't. Why do parents let their kids run around in restaurants (proper ones, not McDonalds) and let them run around screaming in shops? Isn't there an acceptable behaviour in public now - don't the parents ever think that not everybody loves their little darlings or wants to hear them screeching?
Last week I was in a restaurant and this two year old was screaming his head off, the parents just continued eating. Someone at the next table asked the parents to do something and the parents said the kid was teething, so they couldn't. However, they never took the child out of the restaurant so the other diners could eat in peace ... they sat there for the next half hour and ignored all the glares from other diners. Were they right to do this, or just selfish?
Is good behaviour in kids a thing of the past? Are we raising a generation of brats? What's your views about how children behave in public?

Basically, at what age do you think kids should be allowed to see dead family members? I have a close family member with terminal cancer who will die within the next couple of months, if he last that long. My 4 and 10 year olds will most likely want to be involved with all the procedings. Should I take this time to explain the cycle of life to my 4 year old, or save that talk for another time. To make it more interesting, my family members who will be attending have strong split opinions on the subject. HELP!

I was just wondering who people threaten their children with. Not real people like daddy or nanny but characters. If my kids are being naughty I will threaten them with the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and once they hit school age I use Mrs Trunchball and tell them that I will send them to her school if they don't behave. I generally works too.
I was just wondering who everyone else used and if it works for them.
