Parenting - March 2007

At the mall today I saw a mom trying to get her four-year-old (I guess) to leave a store. The girl refused to leave and just became limp with her mom holding her arm in the air. The mom then looked at the father (I guess) and said "Can you help me here?" The man walked over the them and hit the girl, hard, on her leg, without a word.

This seems extreme to me and completely uncalled for. It would have been better for the mom to say to the girl "We are leaving now" and let the girl lay on the floor while she walked away. Thats how I handle my 3-year-old.

What could I have done or said to these morons? I can only imagine what happens at home.

I am searching for the name of a Catholic hospital in Akron Ohio. Im not sure if it is still a running hospital or not, and it may have also been the site of a Home for Unwed Mothers, or the home was somewhere nearby. It was in 1971 when my friend gave birth to a daughter there on March 1st. Her given name at birth was Stephanie but could have been changed after the adoption. She had/has red hair. Anyone with information about her or the hospital - it would be much appreciated.

I am trying to figure out why a parent wouldn't tell a child that they are adopted. I have only come up with the idea that if the biological parent was a murderer, rapist, crazy etc.and I get that but are there other reasons to not tell a child at all?

Here is the story i am a 16 year old male and i get good grades am very active in sports and i get along with my sisters but my dad took away my ps2 because he says i play it too much was he right? it goes like this i get home at 5 and play right when i get home intill 10 but i stop for dinner and if i have homework but on weekends i play almost all day if i dont have a sport going on.

My MOM use to tell us theirs a white line on your forehead, that only mommys can see when you lie. So when she wanted to know if we were lying she asked to see are forheads. If we were lying we covered up our forhead with our hand, if we were telling the truth we would proudly show her our forehead when were not lying. Also she knew something was up when someone was walking around with there hand upon their forehead. What do you think about this Trick? it works real good but you have to lie about the line in order for them to believe it.

Do you think the teenage kids should be able to be in a mall without ID AND/OR ADULT SUPERVISION????

Some Major Cities are now not letting teens in without and id or adult, cause they have been causing trouble.

Ok I don't have any children yet but when I do is spanking the right way to discipline them. I mean I think that spanking them really just scares them out of doing something and doesn't really teach them not to do it. I just dont think I could do that to my kids.

and he did, but it is 24 years old and needs work.
I want a reliable vehicle, as in newer, and he makes the money to get me one but gets very nasty and angry with me when I bring it up. I have said I would get a job to help with it, but he always says to not worry about it and that he will get me one. Hasnt happened yet. I am a stay home mom and have no friends or family to help drive me to get groceries and such.
I am with a 2 year old ALL DAY long as he works out of town mostly. He doesnt understand that a vehicle would help and I think he really just doesnt want me out of the house without him, I dnt know what to say anymore.
I have even with held sex cause I feel like why should I be nice if he wont, he recently had 16 thousand cash to spare and called me "selfsh bitcht" when I said we should use it to get me a car with cash so he wouldnt have to make payments, he drives a newer truck and promised if I stayed home he would get me a car...what do I do?

I grew up in a house where their where both, My mom was loving and sweet and never spanked us, but my dad was the one who did all the spanking, but he never showed my affection. But because my mom show'd that affection I turned out to be a pretty good child. But their is apart of me that wish my dad was more loving, for a minuted I couldn't stand him. Because its like the only time I saw him, he was mad.

So I'm closer to my mother, but I do respect them both.

My nephews all have march birthdays, so my sister throws them all a "joint family party" I'm starting to gift shop. They are turning 11, & 6. I got the 11 year old a shirt, 9 year old a computer game and 6 year old pj pnats and a lego since children hate clothes... is it bad to give him 2 gifts if his bro's only get 1? should i buy the other 2 another small gift?

Ok, I have just gone through an ugly divorce and my kids still hate me. Well to top it off I am pregnant now with the man the kids hate( he really is a great guy, but they wont give him a chance)This was unplanned BELIEVE me! lol My kids live with their dad (he is better off financially, the kids dont see it but he is "buying" them and has turned into super dad to turn them against me) OK, anyway, how do I tell them that I am pregnant? Other than "I am an adult and I can do what I want to!" lol I guess I could just come out and say it, but I am hoping for some other advice.

I have a friend who's kid is so spoiled rotten. She gets everything she wants everyday of her life! She is snotty to people when she doesn't get her way! When she opens a gift given to her, she snarls her nose and throws it aside and questions why you got it for her since it sucks. What would you do with a child this spoiled?

my friends ex boyfriend has a car seat that is to small for their son, he refuses to buy a bigger seat for him. she doesn't want him to take their son, but they have a court order that says he gets him every other weekend. what can she do? this is about his safety..btw we live in ontario canada

I see lots of people that have like 20,000 points yet they've only been here for a few months.Does that make you wonder what kind of parent they are? I'm picturing a filthy house, ill-mannered children, etc. How could they possibly have time for anything else if all they do is answer questions on this site? Do you also find it hard to take their advise seriously?

Today a number of teenagers are falling prey to some wrong means to obtain information about sex,also the population of our country has been increasing tremendously due to lack of information about sex.Why is sex seen or observed as something bad by the parents when eventually each one of us has to do it some time or otherat the age of say about 16 or17 if students are informed about when and how to have sex by correct means ,how to avoid pregnancy then the children will automatically not resort to some bad means as seeing nude photos or watching movies involving sex.and after marriage then will not suffer from sexual problems.do all of you agree with it?????????

It seems like every other week my kids come home from school with less than 24 hours notice to come to school the next day in costumes..it makes me so mad, im all for kids having a fun time but they dont seem to appreciate that a lot of parents work, get home, help with homework, entertain kids, make tea do housework etc and havnt much time or sometimes money to go out and buy or russle up something at such short notice.
