It makes me FURIOUS! I don't mind sorting out dressing up stuff for the kids to wear to school, (I would feel guilty if they were the only ones not dressed up), but I do expect a reasonable amount of notice. My 5 year old and 8 year old had to dress up today, my 8 year olds school informed us 2 weeks ago, which was fine, but my 5 year olds school informed us on Monday!
Then again, I don't know why I am suprised, this is the same school that told us on a Wednesday that the school was closed on the Friday! Do they not realise that parents have lives too?

Hi, I completely agree on this subject. I have a seven year old daughter & i've lost count of the times i'm supposed to of helped her to make something for the next day. I love doing things with her & making sure she's prepared but after finishing work, doing dinner, homework & quality time together the last thing you want is to have a last minute panic on making something. I learnt to sow very quickly & PAINFULLY because of such situations. The worst for me is when i get a letter on a Thursday telling me they have a special assembly or play, this will be the first time i've heard about it, yet i have to change my work completely (which i don't mind for her but i do for the School), they always make things at silly times so parents have to take a whole day offf. Ohhhh it does get to me, especially when you know your child would be devastated if you weren't there, that's the reason i have use an extra three days holiday just to make these last minute events.
I have now become a parent governor & am pushing to get things changed, so we will see.

Oh boy, this makes me go bonkers! I have three children at school and they are always asked to bring something.
For example, today they had to fetch a 'silly hat' for St David's day. My daughter was so determined NOT to wear a hat, she HID the letter from me and I only found out when my friend texted me about it!
The school doesn't seem to care that the mums (it is usually) have SO much to do that they end up running round like headless chickens at the last minute spending a fortune on some crap that the kids NEVER use again!

I find this really annoying It happened this wk having twenty four hours to find a costume for national book day. A little more notice would be good. My friend also got a text message from her daughters school last week to say that school would be shut the following day. Where is the courtesy in a text?

Hi, I would ask the school to send out a newsletter for any event's giving at least 2 weeks notice before the event was going to happen. They have to realise that not all parents can afford or have the time to go out the day before to buy outfits, i work in Asda and i very often have parents coming in very early morning for outfits that their children need that day. And lets face it children love to dress up and join in but parents do need more time to make or buy an outfit.

Mine try that , when it is bed time one used to say Oh I have a project due tomorrow , I make them do without it ,,, If it needs to be done they have to inform you just as soon as they find out , or tough it out , they have the responsibility to inform you in advance if they do not , it will not hurt them to be told I am sorry .....if they do not appreciate you abilities tell them to do it on their own , if they need a miracle tell them to talk to Jesus , you are the mother ,and if they can not ask note I said ASK for your help in plenty of time instead of the night before then tell them you are sorry , you can not jump at their command ,and make something the night before it is needed ..if they really needed it they would have spoke sooner .......most of the time the costume thing is an option anyway they do not have to do everything the other kids get to do ...

My school are quite good and give you a weeks notice but it is still hard to do if you are a working mum. I work 56 hrs per week and have no help at home (hubby is lazy and no house keeper) so i have to do the jobs of a mum as well as my very exhausting job so I know how you feel!!!

I would have spoken with the school officials the very first time it happened.
How do the other parents feel? You should all get together with parents from that particular school and have a discussion and let the school know. Certainly is inconsiderate.

I am a working Mom and I would be very annoyed. There is just not enough time in a work day to get things together.

You don't think your kids just forgot to tell you until the last minute? I've done that before. I also said the school did it so I wouldn't get in trouble.
