My MOM use to tell us theirs a white line on your forehead, that only mommys can see when you lie. So when she wanted to know if we were lying she asked to see are forheads. If we were lying we covered up our forhead with our hand, if we were telling the truth we would proudly show her our forehead when were not lying. Also she knew something was up when someone was walking around with there hand upon their forehead. What do you think about this Trick? it works real good but you have to lie about the line in order for them to believe it.

I wouldn't lie to my kids, in an effort to keep them from telling lies.
It is better to teach your kids that they should tell the truth and NOT lie. Ask them if they would like it, if you lied to them.
Most kids will lie some when they are little. But with a proper upbringing, you can correct that. Tell them you are proud of them for telling the truth, even when they are confessing to doing something wrong.
This "trick" will backfire in the long run, as you are teaching them that it is OK for you to lie about the line, therefore they can lie also. Parents are sometimes lazy, and looking for the easiest thing. Raising your kids the right way is often not the easiest way.
If you take parenting serious and if raising your kids well is important to you, then do the right thing, instead of the lazy thing.

Parents have been doing things like that 4-ever! How about the one that parents would tell their boys growing up? If you touch yourself, it'll fall off!! Or, if you're bad, santa clause won't bring you anything for x-mas except a bag of coal! If you lie, your nose will grow! That does sound like a pretty good one your mom used! The important thing is --- Did it work?

Well if that was the only way YOUR mother could tell you were lying I guess it worked...however I learned to get to know my daughter and I have always been able to smell a lie before it's out of her mouth.

Hey, if there's a Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and Tooth Fairy, there may as well be a white line on the forehead. I like that, may have to start using it.

i think that is an excellent idea!! mothers can always tell when something is not adding up or not correct and it's the same as with Pinocchio (my son's favorite at the moment) that a lie will grow and grow until it's as plain as the nose on your face. it is a little harsh but it gets the point across that when you lie, people know it.

I think, no, I KNOW that it just teaches them to be sneakier. That's what my brother and I did, we just learned to hide our lying better.
I've found with some children that they get so emotional that you can't tell if they are lying by looking at their reactions. My daughter is one of those, and I've felt horrible every time I've judged her based on appearances and found out later that I was wrong.

Why not? It's not really a huge thing and it works. It's a small white lie, I'm sure once your kids figure out the truth they'll laugh about it.

I am planning to just tell my daughter that I can see the lie in her eyes. Just like just about anyone else, they wont look you in the eye when they are lying.

It depends. how do you feel towards your mom about this "trick". If you don't think anything of it then I say go for it. But if you will feel guilty about it then find a different way. I think I might try it on my son, he has started lying about everything.
