You will not give the baby an infection (as someone posted earlier) if you don't do it, as long as you take showers and have good personal hygiene. There is no reason to do it unless you want to. There was no way I could do it anymore after about 7 months into my pregnancy.... so, I asked my hubby to do it for me. It was simply b/c of a personal preference but there's no reason, other than that, to do so.

Having given birth 2 weeks ago I can assure you 100% you do NOT need to worry about shaving your lady garden.
I you decide to waste your time and go ahead and shave, after the birth you will wonder why you bothered.
Most midwives I talked to say they raise more eyebrows when someone has had a wax than if the woman was au-natural.
In the midst of the pain of contractions in labour, all thoughts of how tidy or untidy you pubs are will go out the window. I guarentee you will be thinking moew about pain relief and the birth of your baby.

Baby and doctor are not gonna care how hairy your pubic area is. No matter how much hair you have, things will still open up the same way.
If you do want to go into birth with your pubic hair shaved, get your husband to do it for you. You don't want to risk injuring your baby trying to reach around your stomach.

Noooo! Ye gods, I had my first baby 31 years ago; it was routine to have a nurse shave you bald down there, AND give you an enema when you went into labour. you would be sitting on the loo, groaning in misery, looking like a plucked chicken.
And oh, the discomfort when the hair started to grow back; like wearing underwear made of sacking!
No at all, you don't need to shave. The area will be cleaned very safely before delivery, but that's all. Keep the hair till your tum deflates, then do it if you like!

no, not anymore -- when I was pregnant I also read about having to shave. I did want to do it but by the time I had decided my tummy was too big.
Then I was worried what the doctor might think....believe me - once you are in the delivery room, having your baby, you don't really give a monkeys what other people are thinking.

They used to do this but have since stopped if you are having a normal delivery, if you're have a c-section they still shave the upper area where they make the incision, like they do with any surgery.

sit in front of a full length mirror, on a towel. Use scissors to trim as short as possible and then an electric shaver if you want a closer shave. Sorry but this is how I do it, because god deemed fit to bless me with epping forest in my knickers. and yes I will be doing it in the run up to labour because I don't want my baby to be attacked by pubic triffids.

Medically no, not important. however, when you think about postpartum healing and bleeding for six weeks, it's nice to have a small amount of hair to be holding blood, which reduces smell and chance of bacterial growth, or if you (God forbid) tear or have an episiotomy, less hair to get in the wound.
Now yuck! Too graphic eh?

I am going to say yes, but I shave it all the time anyway. Reason being, I didnt with my 1st born and the doctor shaved it FOR me and I was mortified. I shaved for my other 2.
