My husband and I have just found out, by accident, that we are having a girl.

He has a son from a previous relationship, and was kind of hoping for a boy this time. I think it has more to do with the fact that he knows what to expect with a boy - having been there before.

Anyway, he kind of feels strange about having a girl. He says he doesn't know what to do with a girl. I think he feels awkward about the diaper changes etc....

Is that an odd/unusual reaction?

He's a wonderful dad to his son and I know he will be a fantastic father to our daughter, but I think he feels awkward about certain aspects of the whole baby girl thing.

He's the type of person who exercises alot of respect and discretion when it comes to women. He won't even come into the bathroom if I'm having a tinkle because he just thinks it's disrespectful.

Any comments?

Any suggestions on how to put his mind at ease?

I think overall he's mainly nervous of unfamiliar territory.

Thanks!

I have three kids, two in school, and a 17 month old daughter. Between the three of them I feel like I'm sucked dry... not to mention the draining relationship I have with Dad. I need HELP!

-they know that I won't let them preach to my kids so they 'show' my kids with their actions and lifestyle how 'the right way to live' is
-they tell my kids what they 'should, must and ought' to do
-they are fear based and caution my children and cause them to second guess themselves
-they dismiss my chilrens feeling and opinions (and sometimes their precence)
-they are perfectionists and don't let my kid make mistakes without making them feel bad or guilty (again with the 'shoulds and oughts')
-they are really fun and apporving to my kids, and then when my kids do something that crosses their personal opinion, they withdraw the approval and act shocked and give disapproval

-When I ask them to stop, they get upset with me and blame me for raising my kids in a way that I will 'have consequenes'. According to them my 7 year old already has signs of teenage rebellion. My kids are happy, imaginative, do well in school, very well behaved and have great manners.

Yall tell me!
Do you think hitting a child will teach them a lesson?

I think that it's wrong, and disrespectful.
Shows that you have no class, what so ever.
And you can't talk to your child and handle things out.

Parents, please find another way for punishment!
Hitting is plain stupid, and gets you no where.

As a child, when my parents hit me, I thought me nothing.
When they took time to speak to me, I learned.

My friend is married to a man. She had been in a relationship previously before meeting and marrying this man, and she had a child. Well she marries her now husband. Her husband knew she had the child, and treated him as if he was his. They then had a son together. Now all of a sudden the first son is an issue to him.

He complains that the father of the other son doesn't pay child support (even though the father takes him everyday while they are at work so they don't have to pay for daycare for him, as well as takes him for every other weekend; he feeds his son two of the three meals during each day he watches him; he has his own clothes at dad's house, etc.).

The entire thing (her not getting child support from the father of her first son) is an issue that has caused one fight after another. Her husband has now threatened to leave unless she collects support from her ex. What should she do?

My boyfriend has said several things that show me that he has a very jaded and close-minded view of how women should act, and I'm afraid that will spill over into how he wants to raise a daughter. For example, we went by the cute store in the mall, Libby Lu, where kids get to dress up and then perform a dance in the mall. He said he never wants his little girl to go there b/c it promotes being a sl*t by wearing make-up and putting on clothes that look like Brittany Spears. I dissagree. I loved playing dress up when I was little and I didn't turn out to be a sl*t. I understand his thought process behind that, but I don't think its right. How should I talk to him and is it possible to change his views on this? I haven't brought this topic up with him yet b/c its still a pretty new relationship, but if we do stay together, this could cause a lot of problems for us in the future. Any suggestions?

Not a big fan myself, but looking for something healthier than fish sticks or shrimp scampi for them to get the omega3's.

Not a big tunafish sandwich fan myself - so wont be making that. Looking for other suggestions of what we could try. Such as a milder one - thats not so "fishy"

For my sons birthday I have ellected to make cupcakes for everyone and a duck shaped cake. There will be approx 40 people at the party, so I was planning to make 50 cupcakes, plus the single cake for my son to mash up (it's his first b-day). I will not be able to bake and decorate them on location and I will have to trasnport them in our van, about a 30-45 min drive. Does anyone have any advice how to do this without spending a fortune on cupcake holder things, or know where I can get a huge holder for a somewhat reasonable price? Please help, im stressing this and would love to have a plan ahead of time. Thanks for your help!

My 3-year-old daughter gets rebuffed from some of her other 3-year-old friends because she likes to give them a hug. Is it wrong that my daughter likes to show affection and why are the other kids so freaked out and un-affectionate? It's not like she does it all the time -- maybe just one hug when she sees a friend. I think affection is a good trait. Am I being blind to something? I've talked to her about how some people need their space and some don't like hugs from other kids -- but I feel like I'm squashing her little loving spirit. I've even told her that if she really needs a hug that her mom and dad will happily take her hugs! Help!

I just feel like I would be a horrible parent. I have no patience, not even for myself sometimes. I don't want to be tied down because of kids, I want to travel and just live/enjoy life for myself. Is that so wrong? My friends tell me I'm just selfish and superficial.

With more and more demands placed on mothers to get more done and children to progress faster in all areas of development. The playpen, if being looked at as a potential negative factor. Some refer to it as a "holding tank" for kids and if used could stunt the development of a child.

Many moms say they simply can't live without it. It makes doing dishes, etc easier. Others say, it's one of the worst things you can do for your kids and you've got to find a way around using them.

What is your opinion? Are playpens as bad as TV for kids under age 2?

If you do not use playpens, what do you do to keep your child involved? Do you have a play stove, etc for them to play with while you do dishes?
