I am adopted and have known since I was able to start to understand....I know that my parents were always afraid my birth mother would some how find me and want me back, one of alot of adoptive parents fears, but regardless they were always honest.I don't see any reason not to tell your child they are adopted, for it could cause relationship problems later in life....I am proud to be adopted and couldnt have asked for a better mom and dad.I do plan to adopt sometime within the next 5 years.

Growing up my next door neighbors had an adopted child that they weren't going to tell. Unfortunately, alot of people in the neighborhood knew she was adopted and I heard my parents talking about it one day and decided (at 8 years old) to tell her about her adoption (I know, thats bad). Later I found out her parents weren't going to tell her because she was adopted from a teenage mom who lived in the community. The teenage mom had younger siblings and they could have been interacting with this girl in high school and sports. By the way, when I told her, I didn't know who her mom was - and still don't. At least someone kept that a secret from me, lol.

i think a child has the right to know but some people believe that when the child does find out they may not love their adopted parents as much and may want to tr to start a relationship with their biological parents

We are pre-adoptive parents and we will make it common knowledge that our adopted daughter is adopted. I plan on start talking to her when she is 2/3 years old through child appropriate books. When she is old enough and wants to search for her biological parents than we will help her in her search..

I am not sure why they would want to hide it. My parents told me I was their little adopted angel from birth.. so I always knew! But there could many reasons why they would not want to tell as well.. I guess..if the baby was from another family member. I am very happy that my parents told me.

It is a well known fact now that children need go parenting.
That means love and affection from a caring mom and dad.
It has nothing to do with true biological inheritance. There is no need whatsoever to say anything about being adopted

Because it is personal to the child. It is THEIR life story. You could start telling them that another couple MADE him/her but that God chose "us" to be your mommy and daddy. The people who do the job are the people who deserve the title of "mom" and "dad".

a child deserves to know... but make sure they are old enough to understand it so they won't go crazy and ****.
