This is a complicated situation so bear with me. My 12 year old daughter is on her school's student council. It has raised $5,000 for a well in Africa. 2 weeks ago she came home and told me that the teacher who oversees the student council told them to stop fundraising for the well so as to not get in the way of the Turf Club -a group of parents, not students, who want to raise $400,000 to put in artificial turf in the schoolyard. I wrote a letter to the Turf Club telling them of my disgust in their actions. They threatened me back saying that my daughter and I were trying to discredit them. I spoke with the principal, who turns out to be on the Turf Club! She ordered me, 'as the principal' to 'cease and desist this attack'.Now,everyone except for my daughter and the other children are denying anything happened! The school trustee said 'forget about it'.What message does this send the kids? Now my child is afraid of being kicked off student council. What can I do? This is so unjust.

my 6 year old son is a real pain during meal times, especially dinner. He's wiggly and won't sit still in his chair. He also refuses to eat most of the time. He will demand I make him something else and then he'll complain about that new food I just wasted my time making. I don't know what to do, he's just a pain in the butt during meal times and I don't know why because the snack cabinet is up high, too high for him to get at.

Please do not answer if you haven't personally struggled with an overweight child! I am not looking for theoretical answers. I want to hear from someone who's really been there. I don't have kids so don't give me advice on how to make "my child" lose weight.

To parents: What have you done to try and get your child to lose weight, and what has been the hardest part?

My soon to be one year old has just switched from formula to whole milk without any problems. I'm the one with the problem! How much milk should he be drinking daily? Sometimes he refuses food but will scarf down a bottle eagerly. He is already walking so I'm not concerned about weight gain, I'm just not sure how much is too much, if that makes sense.
Right now his routine is as follows:
anywhere between 4:30 am and 6 am 8oz milk.
between 7am and 9am sippy cup of milk or juice and brekfast.
10-10:30 am 8oz milk bottle and nap.
noon-ish bath, lunch with juice.
between 1pm and 4pm milk bottle if still hungry w/ crackers or fruit.
around 5pm 8oz milk bottle for nap.
6:30ish dinner, with juice.
8pm-9pm 8oz milk bottle for bedtime.

Am I over doing the milk? If I am can you please help w/ideas to substitue milk for other things?

Thanks for the help!
First time mom, expecting number two in Sept.

Why do people feel the need to make comments about my daughters weight? She is thin and in shape. I have told her how to reply to people who make comments and why they make them. But, it really burns me when they are telling a 12 year old that she is too thin. She was in gymnastics and now in swimming. She is very active. People don't realize comments they make to impressionable young girls or even boys, eating disorders are common for that age group. Why do they feel the need to make the comments?

Do you think it's harmful to threaten a 2 year old with a stuffed monkey to get him to behave??Like when he won't let you take his temp or is throwing a screaming hissy-fit in an inappropriate place? For some weird reason he is scared of monkeys and us saying "I'll get the monkey" is very effective whereas time-outs, butt-pops, and other offers of reward/threat have been ineffective.

My husband recently began thinking about getting circumcised. Oddly enough i've never been with a circumcised man and didn't really know how to respond when he told me he was thinking about having it done? Is it really any different at all? Will lovemaking feel different? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Well any answers/advice would help really.

If a very young child behaves badly is it a good idea to spank the child or should you explain to the child what the consequences will be for misbehaving?

How many of your schools include alternative sports like say skateboarding as opposed to football?

How many remeber hating it as say picked last for conventional sports.

How many would have gotton involved in things like surfing, skateboarding, powerkiting, windsurfing (given proper wetsuits) etc.

How many would suppor them to get more kids into sports who would not normally

Or other.

Noting that the likes of Lifeline is well targetted at teenagers.

Talk to franks whilst haveing great adverts leaves out VERY IMPORTANT LIFESAVING info like EXPICITLY saying never drink lots of water on E or die screaming in agony.

As many think you are supposed to drink lots of water.

Brain swells then hernia/pulped down spinal column hole.

Likewise ecstasy .org pill test results give an indication on much crap is in pills.

Why do so many people pass judgement so easily here about young moms? I dont think 14 year olds should be having kids, but you sit here and beat them down. Do you not think they are going threw enough?

He only seems to bite when he hugs and kisses people. So I am confused about what to do. I love his kisses and hugs but hate the after bite. I'm afraid that if I discipline him he will think it's the kissing and hugging. Please help.

I get really frustrated with this one. Can someone who has opted not to immunize their children plaese explain to me their rationale? Doesn't it matter that your children will not be able to attend school, summer camp, sports teams, college? Why not give the shots when the only reason we have these diseases under control is because we immunized against them.?

I recently switched to very part-time employment so I could spend more time at home with my kids. I know we'll need time to figure out our routines, but how can I make this go smoother? Today, for example, there's a blizzard and we can't go outside or drive. How do I balance having some fun quality time with them and getting something done around here?? Every day I stay home with them, I feel like the house gets trashed OR I clean and we get no time together (defeating the purpose). Anyone have some practical tips for making this go a little more smoothly....thanks!
