Huh? I dont really even get the correlation of the bunny/eggs to the religous stuff. At least at Christmas, the whole gift/birthday thing makes sense.

Both the bunny and the eggs are symbols of rebirth and fertility. They were partially stolen from the pagan ceremonies that were once celebrated around the same time.

Traditionally, Christians do not give gifts at Easter like at Christmas. At Christmas, the gifts symbolize the Wise Men bringing gifts to the newborn Messiah. At Easter, the eggs symbolize rebirth, and filling small children's Easter baskets with little trinkets other than eggs just slowly happened along the way.

There is no big gift exchange at Easter like there is at Christmas. Retailers want you to think there is so you will spend money. These days they do this with every single holiday on the calendar, religious or otherwise. Don't by into the hype.

All the symbols of Easter weren't invented by Christianity. It took over European fertility/spring festivals. Birds laying eggs and rabbits appearing out of shrubbery were both signs of nature waking up again, and were used as symbols in old Europe. The Church sort-of took over the egg symbol (especially in Eastern Europe and with the 'pace' egg) but the rabbit part is purely folklore.

The bunny and the eggs come from pagan traditions. They signify spring and new life. Easter comes from the Pagan holiday Ostara which is the spring equinox.

Most Christian holidays borrowed Pagan traditions..even Christmas (the tree, the wreath, holly, mistletoe, lights)

well eggs are a sign of rebirth. of spring. I wouldnt take Easter away from my children. kids today dont have as much to look forward to as we did, things today are scarier then they were. I remember how much fun the holidays were. and yes Easter was orriginally a Pegan holliday.

It's for the kids, a way for them to remember which is also associated with spring, ie the bunny and chicks!

I don't understand it either; I think it's stupid. My children don't get Easter baskets but we discuss the religious connotations.
