I have a good friend who yells at her 1 year old baby. I've tried to show her a good example of parenting whenever she's around (I have a baby, too) but it hasn't worked. It really bothers me that she calls the baby names and swears. For example, her baby was on her bed and was at risk for falling and she kept yelling "YOU'RE GOING TO FALL! YOU'RE BEING STUPID!" Of course, I told her (I was on the phone) "Why don't you just take her off of the bed?" This is just one example of many and it doesn't look as bad in writing than it actually is. She has a teenager who's out of control and she parented her the same way as the 1 year old. I warned her about how she parented the teenager when the teenager was little, but she didn't listen and now she has nothing but problems with her. She's making the same mistakes with this next baby and it really bothers me how she yells at her. Any suggestions? Please, realistic answers from experienced parents only. Thanks!

are babies born with a personality already formed, or is it all formed depending on the circumstances around growing up, and the culture? have you noticed major differences from the very youngest ages with your children with regard to personality(temper, ability to share, being content with surroundings)

Our next door neighbor has a 6 yr old daughter. He has sole custody, but his mother ends up taking care of her 99% of the time because he's either working or with his girlfriend. I had suspected that she was often left alone at home, but tonight I witnessed it firsthand. The grandmother left the house alone. Then the father pulled up in his truck about 2 hours later, and the young girl came outside. I feel so bad for this little girl.

My son had some friends over this afternoon, 3 boys. The youngest 3, the middle 6 and the oldest is around 9 i think. Well they have been over before but the last time they all got into trouble for playing with gas, I told their mom and we talked to them about how dangerous it was and to never do it again. Well today the same boys came over and they were playing for a while outside and then came in and went downstairs. (Don't think I mentioned, my oldest son is 6.) I was upstairs with my 11 month old feeding him supper, never really thought about checking on the older boys. Well it got really quite so I went downstairs to make sure they were ok. The oldest friend was sitting on the couch and i asked him were all the younger boys were and was like i don't know, well the bathroom door was shut so i opened it and went it. to my surprise my sons friends the 6 year old and the 3 year old had their pants off and the 6 year old was behind the 3 year old rubbing himself on him. I was in shock.

I was having fun downing a case of bud while watching my daughter when I accidently drop kicked her across the room. Shes turning kinda blue and was coughing up a little blood but I think she can tought it out. I know I had a lot of hard spills when I was little and I turned out ok but I want someone sober to tell me if she is ok or not. She stopped crying at least I think shes just sleepy. Shes 7.

I raised my two kids alone. Her father very controlling and abusive and dont know about her lesbian lifestlye. She doesn't have a friendship with her dad. I do not have not knowlege in this area. I have prayed and ask God for guidance. She lives at home with me, her mom and, she is respondable and don't take drugs. We have a fairly good relationship but, when i talk to her about this lifestyle is wrong, she doesn't want to listen. She is private about her relationship. My question is: do i let this young lady is she dating, be a part of our lives? family gatherings and at home relaxing etc... thank you for your advice and knowledge /experience and prayer for my daughter.

I'm wondering if any parents have some personal insight into something called oppositional defiance disorder?
My little boy has text-book ADHD; has been doing really well on meds (we actually cut his dose in 1/2 over the last couple years).
But the last few months, he has become almost completely unmanageable. I thought maybe it was d/t the fact that my ex (with whom I had maintained a good friendship!!) moved to Texas & barely contacts the kid.
His behavior isn't like the ADHD stuff---it's so completely different than his 'normal' personality (which has always been sweet & kindhearted).
Anyway, long story short, a friend gave me some info on this ODD, & it really seems to describe his behavior.
I'm not anxious to categorize him or throw yet another label on him, but it really seems to make sense.
I can look up facts & such on-line; but if any parents could give some more personal input, etc. I'd appreciate it.

Sure, the kids should be learning from us. But let's face it, parenting puts a different perspective on your life. What have you learned?

How can I tell when she is ready for one. I mean she is a very mature 13 year old or so i have been told by several people, I am just sure a 13 year old should have a cell phone, but she thinks is unfair because all of her friends have them , well not all of them but most of them

I am so tired of comments from people and emails not only calling me names but calling my children names. Are people really immature enough to go after innocent children? Do they have nothing better in life? Or is their life really that pathetic?

All my kids WERE planned and are, believe it or not, all by my husband, AND I had them all AFTER we got married... Is that really that so rare these days that people have to comment about it??? My husband works full time, provides VERY well for us, and I am able to be a stay at home mom because of it until my youngest starts school. Is that so rare today that people have to be childish enough to call my KIDS names? Does anyone else have this happen?

Normally I can just shrug it off, but I just had 4 emails and two comments from people on a question I answered... It's getting rediculous!

I am PROUD of my kids! That is why I am mom_of_4 on here!

I just posted the question, "Are you a military parent?" As one poster commented, I really meant "militaristic", and I certainly wasn't trying to insult parents, or children of parents who are in the military.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

ok, so my husbands brother and his wife have 3 little girls. 2 of the little girls have head lice, and when I say that I mean they have it REALLY bad, and have had it since January, (thats when they first noticed it) I am NOT exagerating. I wish i was.
Well the mom will not do anything about it, wont buy treatments, wont wash the bedding, you know, all of the stuff you need to do.
The middle daughter has a severe case, open sores etc....
I want to call the state and report them, because they are not being taken care of (the kids)
The grandmother is the only one to do a treatment on the girls, so far
one of the girls is 8 and will not be able to start school. and the other is 4, and in pre school,
Another thing thats really gross, is their mother works at a resteraunt as a server, and we KNOW she has them, but she will not let anyone check her.
Now I am really mad because my 2 daughters were around their grandmother for like 10 min, and now my youngest has it

I was in line at the bank yesterday, behind a woman and her little boy. He looked about 6 years old. There were about 500 thousand people in line and only two tellers, so I watched this mother-child interaction for awhile.

Every time the kid so much as MOVED, the mom was all over him! One time, the kid just barely touched the little rope thingy and mom said, "...hands off!! and looked at the kid like she was going to kill him or something.

I just want to remind parents that children need a parent, not a warden or a dictator. I've heard of parents who slap their childrens' hands dozens of times a day!! I mean, come on!!! No wonder kids can turn into such screwed up adults.

For the "on your kids case 24 hours a day" parents, or anything close to that, I just want to remind you that what children need is the assurance that they're loved, that they're safe and that they can mess up sometimes. They will love you for it in return. And yes, I'm a parent.
