Thanks, that's what I thought but my friend insists I am doing my children's eyes harm by using a nightlight in their bedroom.

Actually, I'd never head anyone say that till I saw your question, so I tried to look it up and had a very hard time finding anything that said that, so , I would definitely say no, they're not bad for children's eyes. I mean, the moon is a nightlight so to speak, and no one has ever accused it of hurting a kids eyes when shining into their room, right?

I did find a reference to some study that had reportedly found a link between nightlights in toddlers' rooms and myopia (nearsightedness), but the study was thrown out as being reliable b/c parental myopia wasn't taken into account, so it's just as likely those kids were nearsighted b/c their parents were. (since it's often hereditary) Every notice how if mom and dad both wear glasses, somewhere along the line the kids, cousins, grandkids and all that do , too? LOL.

20% of children sleeping with nightlights became nearsighted, the same percent as those sleeping in the dark. Incidentally, many of those kids who become nearsighted (that 20%), their parents used nightlights in their rooms...b/c they were nearsighted!

Well, that doesn't make sense. If a nightlight is bad for a child's eyes, I wonder what taking naps does to a baby's eyes.

Several years ago there was a study that supposedly proved a link between sleeping with a light on and eye problems in children. That study was rapidly disproven.
