I'm a mom myself (of a 4-year old boy). (If I had a girl, I don't know where I'd shop for her.)

I read Abercrombie and Fitch offers thongs for girls as young as seven! Their spokesman, Hampton Carney, says, "It's cute and fun and sweet." Shouldn't they have a female spokesperson responding to this query? This sounds so much creepier coming from a guy, any guy. (Maybe A&F stopped doing this since this blog posting in 2004?)

I'm scared every time I bring my 12 year old daughter out shopping but there are a lot of decent clothes out there - you just have to look for them. I stay out of the boutiques and places like A&F (price is also a factor) and go to JC Penney and Sears. Kohl's has some good stuff, too. I'm just afraid of what is going to happen when I let her loose in the mall alone. I hope she has learned well enough from me so far.
I would ban everything that has a neckline down to the belly button (okay, I'm exaggerating)- why does a teen have to have her boobs hanging out? The only reason to have boobs hanging out is to feed a baby and you don't even see anyone hanging out like that for that reason either. Thongs must go - how are they even comfortable? They are not cute and sweet and I agree that comment from a guy IS creepy.

Just about everything! I dont think its cute to see 17 year olds with their thongs sticking out of their pants, so I definitly dont want to see that on my 8 year old daughter! All the skirts and pants are low waisted, and all the shirts are short and tight! It seems that you have to dress them that way or dress them boyish, and its terrible. I found some cute things at kmart that are appropriate, but even walmart, they have that mary kate and ashley line of clothing, some of that is inappropriate! It is terrible for Abercrombie and Fitch to promote this type of thing to young girls, they should be taught to respect their bodies, and cover the parts that need to be covered, until theyre old enough to make those types of decisions and wise enough to know how dressing like that makes people think differently about you. Theyre should be no market for those types of things and shame on the parents who buy into that garbage!

OMG thongs for a seven year old?!?! Thats just disgusting and I can not believe they are doing this! I am pregnant with a little girl right now and I am horrified at what the clothes are going to look like by the time shes 13. It seems with time the clothes are just disappearing all together! And than we wonder why all these men try and meet 13 year old girls for sex online.. its gross and I am frightned to bring a daughter into this screwed up world..

Almost everything, no not quite but i agree with you 100% I don't have girls but I do spoil my goddaughter every year. The first time I took her cloths shopping i couldn't believe how hard it would be to find shorts that weren't to damm short. And the wording on the bottoms of there shorts/pants. What parents wants strangers looking at there little girls bottoms to read whats on there.

These would be the first 2 I would ban

Yeah when me and my husband go out on the weekends I wear revealing clothes, I never really thought about my own daughter!
Wow, I feel like a bad influence!

My rule - no cleavage or midriff, skirts to the knee or shorts that do not expose any buttocks. It's hard to find!

Anything preppy and slutty. I hate it when girls go around thinking they are all that and I'm 14! God I wish they would cover up.
