there is a book out... I know about!

The New Strong-Willed Child: Birth Through Adolescence
by James Dobson ...

But, I would like more opinions.

My daughter is eight and always has to have the last word.
Always talks back.. and definately feels hurt when she doesn't get her way!

I know I get maternity allowance at 90% of my earnings for nine months (im self employed) then of course child support should pay, what else? I won't get income support as I have earned too much and paid plenty ni contributions in the past hence why I get maternity allowance instead.

I have 2 children age 2 and 6. I can't imagine abusing them. I heard on the news tonight that this 18 year old father of a 1 month old repeatedly beat his daughter. The parent didn't bring her to the hospital until 2 days later. The baby's brain is half dead. The baby don't stand a chance. I've read stories on Oprah about children being kept in dog cages, airless closets, thrown down a flight of stairs, stuffed in plastic bags. The worst part of all, there is no justice because many of these parents are out of prison within 18 months (given that the child is not dead). It really angers me but also baffles me as to why they have children (some with more than 1 kid) if they're going to treat another human being this way. What do you think?

so apparently everyone thinks im immature for feeling like number 2 in my boyfriends life after telling me that he might have a child. well feeling that way is not a reflection of being immature it a sign that i realize that a child is more important than pretty much anything that i do. so for all the mothers yea i am to young im 19 and he is 27 so excuse me if im having a hard time dealing.

Should parents get upset if the eldest child tell them that he/she doesn't want to be the role model of his/her younger sibling? The older child doesn't want to play with her little sister, share friends and secrets with her or take her little sister with her when she wants to hang out with her friends. Do you as a parent get upset if you hear this from your older child? Do you think it is right?

I walked on my 9 year old daughter touching herself. We have been havign 'the talk' since always, I don't believe this is one time thing. She knows where babies comes from and how do they get there! My question is: should I explain her the pleasure or you think she's too young to know?

I am 16.

I respect my daddy (my mom is gone, sadly), and maybe a few teachers and other adults, but most of my other teachers, some of my friend's parents, principal and vice principal I do not respect. They are mean, arrogant, buffoonish, child abusing (some of them) nitwits. I believe respect should be earned, and it's a two way street. I do not believe in respecting adults unless they earn it, but many adults think I should respect and obey them blindly.

whenever we did something wrong we had a family meeting after talking about it we decide about physical dicipline for instance my sister one time got spanked for 45 minutesfor coming late ...and every single member of family should contribute ,one at a time, in this discipline and spank or cane the "bad" person... we are still getting spanked , my sister is 26 and I'm 24... but we all turn out to be ok people,,,now you think is it really good way to dicipline since we are all college graduate, drug free...

My 9 year-old stepson wants to come up with something to refer to me as other than my first name, which I think is a sweet gesture. However, when asked what he had in mind, his only response was "you know, something like mom... or something like that". Difficult situation, but "mom" isn't the right word for us, unfortunately. Any suggestions? Do you have stepkids? What do they call you?

I never really noticed until recently, but hearing him say my first name does feel very formal and doesn't represent our relationship well at all. Any thoughts?

my children are 2, 3, and 4!!! I am having trouble keeping the house under control and i think a "family rule" list might help. I want to make sure it has rules for the children and the parents so the kids feel it is fair. Does anyone know of a good site to print a family rule list from or have a list i can use. There is yelling, screaming, hitting, ect. going on and there needs to be changes for EVERYONE! A list with built in consiquences would be helpful ( for parents and kids). thank you

Since I was little, I've always said that, someday, I'd like to adopt at least one child (and I'd also like to have my own biological children). However, I am not planning on getting married. I don't really believe in marriage. I'm only 18 and may have a change of heart about marriage in the future, but for now I don't really think marriage is for me. I was just wondering if a single person or an unmarried couple can adopt.

Thanks in advance :)

I have a 7y/o daughter, 12yo son and a 15 y/o son. I dont know why but I let my 15 and 7yo get away with things that I wouldnt let my 12yo do. I make him clean his siblings rooms as a chore and I expect strait A's from him while my other kids are allowed to bring home C's.I also punish him more harshly then I do my other children. However I do love them all equally and I feel like this has gone on long enough. Do you do this to your kids? And how can I change?? I need all the advice I can get.

no, it is not normal.

see someone to work through this.

and do not act on any inappropriate impulses. if you feel that you might, call 911 right away. it's your job as a mother to protect you son at all times, even if protecting him includes from yourself.

you are doing the right thing by asking questions regarding how you are feeling. you, yourself have answered you own question. you wouldn't be asking if you truly thought it was normal.

ignore the people that have responded to your question rudely and insultingly. be proactive and follow through with the good advice that's been given.
