How could a dad do that to a child? Moved to Arizona in April, didn't tell us. Before that he wouldn't call our son or see him, for a whole year. This past November I let him call his Dad, just before thanksgiving. Haven't heard from the jerk since, & yesterday he sent our son a package (viedo games) for Christmas. Do I give it to my son? My sons b-day is on Christmas too. Do I let my son talk to his dad again (if he does call)? Or just leave it the way things are now?

My boyfriend's boss is 35. She has one child who is around the age of ten and is currently married to a much older man who has two daughters that are her age. He doesn't want any kids. She doesn't want any kids. So she gave custody to her ex husband (her childs father). When she visits him she is constantly annoyed. She tries to push him off onto other people. If her ex was to get divorced from his current wife (which could happen b/c they are having marital problems) then she would regain custody. She is flipping out because she does not want this child.
What I'm wondering is.. how common is it for a woman who has given birth to a child not to have maternal instincts or any feelings for the child?

I was in a situation today where I so badly wanted to criticize another parent (stranger) today. I held my tongue and did not, but it made me wonder how other people handle the situation....

Lately I have been getting worried about my financial situation down the line, (right now I totally depend on a man, a money controlling one) I want a job, but the BIG problem is He will not pay for a day care (he makes over 90,000 a year) and retorts with "why do you need a job" insecurity at its finest.
So now tell me please, how do I get a job if I cant get daycare?
He is a big dink anout me working and earning my own money so much so it ends up in huge fights till 3 am!
He is the most unsupportive thing I have ever seen.
I thought couples should support each other in what they want in life, not make the other feel like a bad mother.
I really dont know what to do. I am 26 and I dont want to be dependant 100 % on a man when I am 30!
I feel like a loser. I got pregnant because he lied about wearing acondom, I found out about 20 seconds into the act when it didnt feel right. We were having sex for a year before he lied to me, I didntthink he would lie about that!

I have two cats. They are very nice cats at the moment as they are still very young--oldest is three years. I worry that as they age they may tire of my two boys. Is there anyway I can get them to "grow up" together? Are there any suggestions on animals and children?

I am not for or against spanking. I do not spank my own children but as long as parents are enforcing some sort of discipline it’s okay to me. While answering a question a few minutes ago I did realize something.

Many parents that I know who do spank, stop spanking at a certain age. For example; spanking would be considered embarrassing after the age of eleven. I do not understand how that is effective.

If you use a form of discipline only up to a certain point, how do you switch to non-spanking form of discipline? I don’t see how a child would take that seriously. In my mind a child understands his/her actions will lead to a form of correction. Example: When I do something bad, I get spanked. Then say at age 12 the parents deem spanking as unacceptable.

Wouldn’t that confuse a child when all of a sudden they only get privileges taken away? I would think before if they used fear in order to instill proper values and behavior then switching gears logically, would confuse them.

How can it become an unacceptable form of discipline after they reach a certain age?

Call me stupid but I just don’t “get” it. Thank you for your honest replies.

First I'd like to apologize for posting this here when technically it doesn't belong. I really have NO idea where to stick it though, so if anyone knows that please let me know.

Now my question....I babysit for a family frequently on weekends and such. It's a married couple with a 9 year daughter and 7 year old son. Last weekend they gave me a card with $20 in it for Christmas. I really want to buy them something as well, but something for all of them not just the kids. Buying for each person individually would be financially diffult and hard considering I'd really struggle on the husband. My original plan was to bake a platter of cookies, but that kinda went down the drain today. (Long story) Does anyone have any suggestions that are very reasonable?? I'd say I could spend up to $30, which isn't much but I also had a huge family to buy for as well this year.

Thanks so much.

I did this parenting class that said I should use something called 123 magic. My kids look at me like I'm funny even though I have followed through on it and punished them like I was told. I believe that there is nothing wrong with a good spanking. Ever think that a lot of the kids that get locked up younger and younger have to do with lack of disipline? What are peoples thoughts on this subject?
