My mother passed away unexpectidly when I was 11. Now that I am married with two kids I wish she could see me. I want to ask her so much stuff about when I was a baby and how she handled certain situations. I wish my kids could have met her, she was such a wonderful person. I hope i'm just like her. I don;t know what i'd do without my older sister to help me.
I miss her soooo much. Is there anyone else in the same situation? I'd like to hear your story.

We babysit a baby that just turned 1yo. Her parents give her a pacifier at home but we dont let her have it here because she never needs it. She wouldnt take one when she was a newborn but they forced it on her anyway to shut her up. Since she didnt need it that young then why do they let her have it now that she can calm herself now. I beleive that she doesnt need it but her parents give it to her to shut her up, because they give it to her in the carseat before she even cries to shut her up for the ride home. When she gets dropped off I automaticaly take out of her mouth and put in in her carseat so that way we dont lose it. She doesnt not cry when I take but her mom yelled at me for taking it from her. How do I explain to her that she doesnt need it.? And that she is just creating a habit? How do I explain to her that she never uses it here? They can't control her at home but she's an angel at our house. She just chews on it she dont suck it.

Just wondering?

2006-12-20 11:47:06 · 12 answers · asked by Go lover 1

I'm a casual song writer and a semi new father. My boy is under a year old, but before he was born I had an idea for a song I could write and dedicate to him. The idea would be 'I can't wait to meet who you're gonna be'. The song would start out before my son's born and I might ask "Will you have your mother's eyes?" or "What will you do when you first see me" or something along those lines and then gradually advance through the stages of his life capturing touching moments...the stage of the song or his life are as follows [ 1) right when he's born 2) toddler / kid 3) teen 4) adult ] For example, maybe when he's a kid "who will be your favorite super hero/sports star?..I can't wait to meet who you're gonna be." So I'm just looking for an idea of some events that are quite touching as your child grows up since I have yet to experience them for my self yet. What moments are touching, made you laugh or cry or wonder? Thanks for your help!

My daughter still believes in Santa. We went shopping and I had her choose two toys that she really liked and then we donated them to "Toys For Tots". She asked," why are we doing this because Santa will bring their toys?" I explained to her that the world is based on commerce and that nothing is free. Because of that parents have to buy their toys from Santa and some parents can afford to buy more than others and then there are those who can't afford to buy anything. That's why we give. I explained to her that Santa has a business to run..he has over head cost, like paying his elfs to work, buying raindeer food, the cost of heating the north pole, drying cleaning his Santa suit, etc. I didn't know of any other way to explain it. What do you tell your child?

Like your picking out bras or panties and they are with you. Do they point and giggle to make you blush?
I just had a thought about it.
I know some boys can be pervs about that though.

Okay, my kids are 1 1/2 and 2 1/2. They are both going through a phase now where each wants what the other has. I've taken a toy away from both but realized it wasn't fair to the one who had the toy first. Is it best to let themselves work it out together or is it best that I ALWAYS intervene? I've tried both and for some things, it is best to let them work it out in most some circumstances. My mother-in-law is completely against it though. I'm hearing one side from my mom and one side from his mom and it's driving me insane. Are kids capable of working problems out at this age or am I just imagining they are?

my daughter, as well as my husband and I are very picky eaters and my youngest(6) will eat only limited fruit(apples grapes raw carrots), bread and cereal, peanut butter sandwichs and no meat at all. She also hates milk but occassionally I can talk her into yogurt. Before her only meat eaten was sausages(Brown&Serve! which noone else in our house ate) We cant go out for dinner unless it's IHOP! Now she informs us she will only eat Eggos for dinner-now 2 weeks. Should I worry? Shes already too small(5%ile weight and 2%height) for her age but I cant make her eat. If I give her a good vitamin for her age and weight, should I just let her eat what she wants? There is definately an aversion with all of us in the household to eat things other than bland tasting foods but she is even more picky. She has been around people who eat a variety of foods(grandmas, etc) and that made no impact at all. What to do, where is there help?

Let's hear some funny things that have happened to you since you became a parent and all you could do was laugh. For example, last night was my husband's and my anniversary. Usually we go out some where nice, leave the 4 year old with a sitter or grandparents. Not last night, we had a classy night out at Pizza Hut!!! We couldn't find a sitter and hey it was Kids Eat Free night, hahahahahaa! Who has some good ones? Let's hear 'em!

My fiancé and I are planning to get married in August. He has a 6y/o daughter from a previous marriage. The mother had her rights terminated, and is not in the picture. His daughter has recently been acting out at home & school. She sneaks things from the kitchen, lies, talks back, refuses to listen, and also has taken money from my purse. She's always had trouble with listening and talking back, but it seems she has gotten worse. We have tried to punish her by taking things away or yelling, but it never works. Talking to her and explaining what she did wrong doesn't work either. She also has days where she is absolutely perfect, and couldn’t seem happier, but those seem to be getting fewer and fewer. I don’t even know how to get through to her anymore, but it is putting quite a strain on our relationship. My fiancé does not want to try counseling yet, he thinks she will grow out of it. I don’t mind waiting to try counseling, but in the meantime I would like to do something.

I love children, and I am pregnant with my first, but I can admit that some babies are not very cute. I have heard people say "all babies are cute", but come on, that's not really true.

Don't you agree that most people fuss over not so cute babies because they don't want to hurt the baby's parents?

I can admit that I have done that, especially with family members!

What about you??

The boys are in school for 2 hrs 4 days a week. We don't know if we should restrain them, scold them or just let them calm down by themselves. There doesn't seem to be any single thing that set them off. They could be sitting down to eat or shopping. We are at a loss as to what our responce should be. For instance should they go to time out, be held and loved or what?
