When my husband and I went to China to pick up our daughter, we were given an "Over the Shoulder Baby Holder." It's styled much like a hammock and will hold children from newborn to about 50 pounds. Your baby can lie down in the sling and sleep or sit facing you, facing away or piggy back, there is nothing between their legs and their feet don't "dangle." My girlfriend used it when she had her baby, and it was very easy for her to breastfeed in private, and was very happy with the 100% body support it gives her baby. (She's now bought one) It was very comfortable to use, and if you fit it correctly, your child is completely secure and supported, leaving both hands free if you need both hands. Our daughter is now 4 and we still use it when we go shopping or on trips when she gets tired. It puts no pressure on your back or shoulders and is very comfortable for the carrier, and appears to be very comfortable for the rider. You can wash it, dry it, and they come in hundreds of patterns. It's designed very "South Pacific Traditional," but I really loved it mainly because my daughter was snug against me, she could see all around her,her heart was next to mine, and we could swap kisses while not being confined, but was still secure and safe. Even if you are looking at the more modern slings, the OTHBH is really worth looking at, and no one says you can't have two.

I loved the Taylor Made sling. (www.taylormadeslings.com ) I never did the get the hang of using a sling with my newborns--I guess I was too scared of dropping such a tiny baby--but slings have been wonderful as my sons grew to be older babies and toddlers. Taylor Made makes a water sling that is awesome for vacation. It's made of mesh so it dries quickly. We used it at swimming pools and at the beach. It made carrying a wet and slippery baby so much safer and easier!

There is a lot of talk about the sling/carriers that hold the baby facing forward but I hate those. The poor baby is hanging out in space and anything can smack them in the face and they cannot see you. it does not look comfortable or look like it makes the baby seems secure. every child I have ever seen in one of those has their little arms flailing out and a look of terror on their faces.
I much prefer the carriers that hold the infant facing you. they can snuggle agianst you and they can hear you heart beat and lay their heads down when tired or wanting to sleep. You can protect them better in this position and they look more comfortable with mom/dad close and visibal than hanging out in open space with the whole unexplained scary world coming right at you with every step. I think is is mor natural even to carry them on your back than this face front method but for infants the back back is not good..you cannot see them or get to them easily and they do not support themselves very well if they are of a weight to fit a carrier at all. in front facing you, close to you is more like how they were carried in teh womb. I carried my daughter that way all the time until she was about 4 of 5 months old. She is a wonderfull sweet and bright toddler now and I don't care what they say Ithink that helped.

I loved my Zolowear sling (i think it is zolowear.com!!! They are here in Texas (outside Austin). It was worth every penny. My son is 18 months old and I still use it as a hipster. It was so nice, I put him in the sling and he would sleep and if we were out in public the tail of the sling was great to cover up when I was nursing (nobody could even tell I was nursing). It also has a place for your keys and credit cards so you don't have to carry a purse. My only regret is I didn't have it for my first one. For my first one we had one of those front carries and it killed my back plus if my son fell asleep I woke him up every time getting the darned thing off me and him out of it.

I bought a baby bjorn original and found it really uncomfortable. Even when my daughter was only 4 - 5kgs I would get really sore shoulders, neck and aching ribs from carrying her around in it for just half an hour. I paid $139.00 for my baby bjorn but only used it for a couple of months as the strain on my shoulders was just too much. I went and bought a Snugli one for $50 at Target and found it to be 110% better than the baby bjorn.

Rain kit for them besides and an umbrella. we've a stroller in spite of the shown fact that it quite isn't used. we've been caught in undesirable climate and used the above and it works wonders. Having your infant bundled up and close to to you keeps them heat interior the sling besides. good success! I additionally positioned the infant below my coat. My mom replaced into horrified- yet she replaced into comfortable and comfortable and heat and not in any respect peeped. At 5 months, she'd peek out to verify what replaced into occurring and then tuck back in- it replaced into too wonderful! Slush and strollers do no longer mixture!

Hug-a-bubs are great for newborns as they are very supportive, then an ergo (pricey but excellent) are good for older tots.
