Yes, I've seen lots of not so cute babies, And of course you never want to say something unkind to the parents. ALL babies are precious. Not all babies are cute, but ugly people have to come from somewhere. Just say how precious the baby is.
Hope you have a pretty baby!!!

This is definitely a situation where tact is more important than truth. You can REALLY hurt parents' feelings if you tell them they have an ugly baby. It turns into a reflection on them; if their baby is ugly, they must be too. And do any of us really want to be the one to tell someone they are ugly?
I would rather gush over an ugly baby than alienate myself from a couple for telling them the truth. It just doesn't make good social sense to be so cold to someone, especially over something that is the most important thing in their lives.

Yeah your right sometimes babies aren't as cute as people make it out but a child is always beautiful in the parents or family's eyes!! You'll find out when your baby is born, you'll think it's the most beautiful baby you've ever seen just don't freak out if you hear some one say that about your baby though!

Yep, we have two very ugly babies (children) in our own family! I don't understand it either, because both parents are relatively good looking people. So far both children are not attractive at all.
I never say anything. I don't say oh the baby is cute, I just say oh what a cute outfit, or look at all that hair...something like that.

weird, i was just having this discussion with my sister last night.
You could say something along the lines of "aw, she's got a cute personality".
Although, telling a parent that their baby isn't cute doesn't really accomplish anything. I think that this is an area where it's okay to lie.
If they ever decide to enter it into a beauty pagent, simply tell them the dangers of exposing children to so much attention at such a young age.

Yes there are some funky looking babies out here *knock on wood* and I hate to sound shallow but when I was pregnant I was scared that she was going to be ugly cuz of all the bad things that I had said about other babies, I even lifted myself after a c-section just so I could see that she wasn't ugly.

Ok, so not all babies are physically appealing. But no matter what, babies are "always beautiful" to people because of what they mean to us. They are so full of possibility, wonder and unconditional love and trust. Everything becomes new to us as we see things for the first time all over again and learn about the kind of people we want to be for them. They make everything around them beautiful and everyone around them happy. As far as I'm concerned, that makes them the most beautiful things in the world, each and every single one of them.

Of course! Some babies are not cute...Some adults are not cute. That is just the way it goes, but of course, every parent thinks his or her child is beautiful. Additionally, I think you have to be around a child/baby, just like an adult, and get to see the little things in his or her personality that makes him/her beautiful. Every child may not be beautiful to the eye, but he/she has something truly special about him that should be loved and appreciated. Children truly are the most difficult blessing you will ever receive!!!

Especially new borns.
Ive fussed over many a not so attractive baby, so as not to hurt the parents.
But babies are cute, regardless of their looks.
