I'm a casual song writer and a semi new father. My boy is under a year old, but before he was born I had an idea for a song I could write and dedicate to him. The idea would be 'I can't wait to meet who you're gonna be'. The song would start out before my son's born and I might ask "Will you have your mother's eyes?" or "What will you do when you first see me" or something along those lines and then gradually advance through the stages of his life capturing touching moments...the stage of the song or his life are as follows [ 1) right when he's born 2) toddler / kid 3) teen 4) adult ] For example, maybe when he's a kid "who will be your favorite super hero/sports star?..I can't wait to meet who you're gonna be." So I'm just looking for an idea of some events that are quite touching as your child grows up since I have yet to experience them for my self yet. What moments are touching, made you laugh or cry or wonder? Thanks for your help!

What about when they start they're own family? That's a huge part of their life, as well as yours. You can write how he has become a responsible young man and successful in life. Or college and graduations? That's also a huge success in someone's life. Or little things, like learning to talk.

Maybe these can help you out:

When I first saw your eyes, my heart filled with joy,
I was so proud to be the father of this handsome, young boy.

I almost cried when you first called me 'Daddy,'
I smiled so brightly as you ran hurrily towards me.

I can't wait to see you all grown up and bright,
teaching your son what's wrong and what's right (or, teaching your kid how to fly a kite.)

You've made my life so special, so happy, so fun,
I thank God everyday that you are my son.

Well when he's a baby you could talk about his first step, his first word, When he is a toodler, when he first enters school. That one day that you leave him at the door of his kindergarden class, not knowing what life has stored for him. When he's a teen, his graduation, first love, friends, and you cam't forget that with every teenager comes peerpresure, depressio, ect. As an adult, who he will mary, what his job will be, his wedding, his first kids. Hopefully this will help and good luck!
