Fish - April 2007

I used water (about 1/4 tank) and filter media from a friend's tank to set mine up. I went ahead and put in the fish immediately. It's been a month and I've done a 20% water change once. I haven't had any fish die. So is my tank cycled yet?

I have a male Betta fish and i don't know that much about it but anyways i looked at it a few minutes ago.

It was upside down at the top of the water with it's gills opening and closing.....

I thought it was dieing so i quicly changed him to another bowl with fresh water....

It's doing the same thing but this time it is not upside down but anyways i looked at closely and it has something really groose on iy's body. It looks like tiny lil hairs growing on it.

It's water has miny bubbles on the surface and it's water is like salaiva and real stick

can anyone tell me why???????

I only got him today, but he has remained huddled next to a plastic plant which I placed in his tank. How much time will he need to adjust to his new "crabitat"? Should I be concerned?

He also just came from the pet store and two of his friends were dead - the store assistants didn't even know until they took them out! Does this show lack of attention? Will he need a bath or anything? (He has water/food)

He is a strawberry land hermit crab.

XOXO,
Laurie

on a friday, i saw one of my fish laying eggs for the first time. i have never had baby fish, so i have no idea what to do. i removed all the other adult fish, and put them somewhere else, and left the eggs in the main tank as i was too scared to touch them because i could damage them. now , its sunday, and all the eggs have hatched into tiny fry, and they have attached themselves onto the plants, and the glass. i have a 60 litre tank, i have left the oxygen pump on, and turned off the filter so they don't get sucked into it. can someone help me on what i should do next and how to keep these fry alive..

My betta fish stays at the bottom and only swims to the top to get food. He is old (around two years.) I talked with a pet store worker and she said that he has a broken back. Is he in pain?

I have 1 tank, which I would like to turn brackish. I had Tetras and Barbs etc., which I can not keep in brackish water. So I bought a second tank to put them in. But then, I read that Rosy barbs will grow to 5 inches. So I wanted to bring it back to the store... They are very fast and very hard to catch... I don't want to catch him, then put him in the other tank, then catch him again and bring him back to the store... can I just keep him in a 1gal. bowl for about 24hours? I know then can live in room temp...???

And then yestarday I noticed the one of my bala sharks was more skinny then the other three. His dorsal fin was also laying down on his back, he was also gulping. Then in the morning he was died. Now I am noticing another shark with the same symoptoms, I am now worried. CAN ANYBODY HELP!!!! PLEASE

A friend and I are thinking of purchasing two land hermit crabs - one male, and one female. Is it possible to breed them? Somebody I know told me that they will need to spend at least two days together. Is this true? Any other information I should know? Thanks.

I have a Fancy Goldfish and a Chinese Plecostomus (that has eaten a white catfish that was a little bigger) in about a 30 gallon tank together. In a smaller tank I have a male and female betta seperated by a glass wall. I can't get the male (Gomez) to make a bubble nest. He has done it partially before, but I accidentally moved the tank and it was destroyed. I would like to know:
1. How long does it take to make a bubble nest?
2. What should the aprox. temperature be?
3. Should the betta's go into the larger tank?
4. Is there a limitation on how large a betta tank should be for mating?
5. Will the betta attack the goldfish and/ or Plecostomus?
6. Will the Chinese Plecostomus eat the betta's if put in there?

How many have tried fishless cycling? I'm doing this now and really like this method over using fish. What are your experiences with this method and would you recommend it.
