I have 1 tank, which I would like to turn brackish. I had Tetras and Barbs etc., which I can not keep in brackish water. So I bought a second tank to put them in. But then, I read that Rosy barbs will grow to 5 inches. So I wanted to bring it back to the store... They are very fast and very hard to catch... I don't want to catch him, then put him in the other tank, then catch him again and bring him back to the store... can I just keep him in a 1gal. bowl for about 24hours? I know then can live in room temp...???

Should be alright, but be careful, as some one else said, it will be VERY stressful for him. Just fill the bowl with tank water, make sure the room is warm, and then put him in and cover it with a towel. Leave it somewhere where no one walks past, not near drafts or radiators, or near doors or anything. Can you not take him to the shop before you move all the fish across into the new tank, to avoid the stress of the temporary home?

Yep, at least that is what I did with my goldfish. He lived in a glass bowl for around 5 years and we never had a problem.

I think you could but you'll have to be aware of the stress factor on them, can you keep them somewhere dark, it should help the situation. Good luck with your new tank.

If you put a lid/cover over the bowl so he can't jump out.
