I was reading some things about saltwater tanks. And it says to take Ammonia Tests everyday. I'm not sure how to take ammonia tests and what to use. Can anyone help me?

Since my trusty gold fish have all passed away, I have now decided to try and get a tropical tank going. I have started off with two neon tetra and four glowlights as I was told they are the best to start with. In a few weeks I would like to introduce some others as they look a bit lonely and was wondering which to go for?

Thanks

I have a psycho fish (it's an albino something) and it's taking out all my fish! he's chomping at their fins.. and bullying them .. and has already killed 5 puffers, a shark, and an angel fish. It's driving me nuts! what can I do?
I've tried to get him out but he hides under this 5 lb. rock we have in there as a decoration.
He's absolutely crazy .. he has anger issues.
Can I maybe chop up some anti-dipressants into his fish food??

I saw a fish at a FISHstore, but it was on display not really for sale. And It had bumpy skin, it was black and white, spotted. It wasn't that big and it was like a sucky fish. Can anyone tell me? The reason I capilized FISH is because it isn't a petstore but a petstore ONLY for fish. So you know it's good ;D

My Black molly looks pregnant but it's not fat just has a hump in the normal spot on a molly where it's suppose to be pregnant. And my male dwarf gourami is attacking fish so I used a tank divider trapping him in a small 2 or 3 gallon area. He killed my pictus catfish I think because he bit him a lot. Do mollies eat alagae? My four (two females, two males) mollies are eating a red alagae that grew on my glass and fake tree? What is it? Is it alagae? Do black kuhli eat alagae? How long are mollies pregnant? Can I use the tank diveder to seperate the birthing molly in that area? Do I have to bare bottom it?

I'm getting lots of good answers to my questions. I know I can't put 2 males together. I know I have to slowly introduce the female into the males enviroment. I feel though my water is a tad bit cold. Being inside in the air conditioning. Can I take the fish bowls/tank outside when it's hot to heat it up? As long as I don't let it get too warm?

Okay, recently had to rearrange things a bit, and now my betta has a ten gallon tank all to himself. I was wanting to add some mellow fish to his tank to keep him company, since the last time he was all alone in a tank, he was a little depressed and inactive. I can't use african dwarf frogs. Tried that, and he scared them poor thing half to death, by stalking him around the tank. I had to move the frog into a different tank.

Any suggestions?

He is a regular crown-tail betta, dark blue. A couple days ago, on his belly, from his pelvic fin to his mouth, he's developed this area of shiny blue-green scales. At first, I thought his pectoral fins were dirty, but when I shined a flashlight on him, those "streaks" were shiny too.

He lives in a 2.5 gallon tank with a small whisper filter, and we try to keep the water around 82 degrees, (it's harder to get it cooler in Hawaii :( ...) and we feed him with bloodworms and betta pellets.

He also seems to be swimming around normally and he still flares up in front of a mirror, but he likes to rest on the bottom of the tank a lot. We're afraid he might be getting sick. :(

I am in the process of treating my tank for fin rot. I have put three doses of tetracycline in so far and I have one more to go tomorrow. I have also changed 25% of the water tonight and I will change another 25% tomorrow before I return my filter. I also took out my carbon filter(as the directions said) so I understand that my water is somewhat mirky on account of that, but on to my question. Does Tetracycline make your water somewhat mirky since it is a yellow color? Does it also make your water VERY bubbley on the surface? After I put the filter back in tomorrow should I take out all of my decorations and scrub then or is it ok to leave them in there? Thanks for the help!

I have 2 goldfish (1 common and 1 comet) in a 10 gallon tank. 3 weeks ago I realized that the common goldfish's anal fin and the pair of pelvic fin are damaged. I mean it just looks like the fin was cut out a piece by a scissor. Then the dorsal fin as well after 2 days. I immediately treat with Melafix & salt, the fin didn't get worse but also not getting any better. I then did 10% partial water change every other day for a week and treated the tank with maracyn. After 5 days I did a water change and continue the Melafix / salt treatment. It's been over 7 days now but it's not getting worse or any better. The fish is still active. PH is 7.4 and ammonia is 0.
I was recommended to use Fungus Clear by Jungle Lab, but want to hear from you guys before starting another treatment. Thanks for your help.

I'm going to start a tank and I like guppies. What are good fish to put with guppies so that I don't have any issues. Can I put an Angel fish with guppies? What would be some good choices? I don't have a tank yet, but I will make sure to get one large enough to properly house the amount of fish that I get.

I have four turtles in a ten gallon. I reeeaaalllyy want to make a huge aquarium for them (and add fish and cool things), but I dont know what kind of material I should get to suit my budget (which isnt too high). I really want to refrain from glass, cause you know. 'Stuff' happens, as Forrest Gump indirectly said. I want a sort of plexiglass-type material, but it cant be too expensive. Also, you know the support things on tanks? The frames, I guess? Where would I get those, or could I just make them myself for cheap?

So, please, if youve had experience building aquariums before (or not), and can list materials and the average amount per foot, that would be just dandy. Also, what should I do for a hood? I was thinking that if I really wanted to be cheap, I could stretch a bit of screen across the top of the tank and clip one of those desklamps to the side of it. Or is it usually cheaper to just buy an already-made tank?

Thanks for at least reading
