i want to soften the water in my angelfish tank. i know that adding a piece of untreated driftwood to my tank will soften the water, but will the ph drop gradually, or will it cause ph shock to my fish?

At first I just thought I had a lazy fish, but he has followers. They all get very active whenever I put food in the tank and they all still eat a regular amount. I do not see any odd colors on any of them. Do they make medicine for fish? I am new at this.

should I get yet another beta fish? or try something new? If I get a new fish, it'd have to be something small, simple, and can live in a bowl, not an aquarium. what's a good candidate? or should I stick with betas?

I have 2 sets of guppy fry one set 2 weeks old and the other set about 1 day old, the first time I had guppy fry I released them once they where bout 2 weeks old, ( as they are kept in a fish hatchery) and whilst I was watching them , within seconds, one of the guppy females ate one of the guppy fry ( this was not the frys mother) Do you have any suggestions when I should release the guppy fry? and will they be safe with platies (male and female), mollies (just female) and guppys ( male and female)?
Thanks Danny

I have a 60 litre tank and I have a bacteria bloom, I know this becase i gave my tank a good clean including all of the ornaments, this is how I have damaged all of the bacteria colonies. How long will it take until the water returns to normal ( crystal clear) ? , and what do you reccommend ? are substances like waste control and weekly cleaner any use for this problem ? Thanks Danny

I just started using tap water that has been aged for about 24 hours for my betta. Prior to this I have been using tap water that has been conditioned with betta conditioner. Do I still need to add betta conditioner to the aged water, or does the aging process make it safe enough?
If I need to add betta conditioner to the aged water, then should I put the recommended amount of should I reduce it by 50% or so?

my male betta, that hog! is eating the eggs!!! i know they eat SOME that are rotten or not good but not ALL!!! yes he ate every single one of them!!! this is the second breeding for both of these betta's and they were slick this time around and everything went smoothly except that he ate them all! Why is that??? he strictly eat blood worms which is nothing wrong only that i'm afraid that he doesn't get enough nutrients from them so i've kinda starved him to eat the pellets but still he doesn't. he goes to them even puts them in his mouth but spits them out again after a while almost as if he can't swallow them. Is there anything else i can do or is there anything i'm doing wrong? the fist time he was a good dad...what happened....oh!! and while i'm at it.....HOW LONG AFTER BREEDING CAN U PUT THE TWO SAME BETTA'S TOGETHER AGAIN??? I wouldn't be surprised that he was that hungry to eat all the eggs.

I've had my female betta for about a month. She is in her own tank, a nice size, with special water from bottles called "Betta Water" that has already been treated. I've noticed that she lays on her plant and sticks half of her face out of the water. The first time I saw that, when I removed the cover because I couldn't find her, it scared the crap out of me because I thought she was dead. I poked her and she darted off and started swimming around and ate and was all normal. In the beginning she used to sleep in her castle, now it's just at the top of the water. Lately I've been seeing her just float at the top without even being on her plant. She's not floating sideways or anything, just aimlessly and lassily. She's fed according to directions. Her body is a light pink and her fins are a dark red. This morning I noticed that the dark red in her fins are fading. I don't know what that is from because I take good care of her and her water. The lid does have a light on all the time.

I have a 3 ft tank and i have had gravel in but i find it really hard to keep clear of fish poop and junk, So i now keep it bare bottom with some big rocks and plants, So i was thinking would sand be ok to put in with feshwater fish? And what kind/type should i get, And is it easy to keep clean,
And the most important question:::

When i syphon it to take all the poop/junk out will the sand not get sucked up? And if it does then how do you clean it?

And it needs to be sand that is available in the UK as that is where i stay.

I've had a 10gal tank for about 7 weeks now, Silly me thought it cycled about 2weeks ago, but I think it is now, Nitrates are good but ammonia is up just a little..50. Now my tank is cloudy and Ive lost 2 fish.(Ive done water changes) #1 When do I change the filter for the first time? #2 Is the cloudiness the "good bacteria", thus I shouldnt worry about it too much? #3 Should I save the filter once I change it, so that I will have a source of "good bacteria" or will the new filter accumulate the same good bacteria?? Sorry if the questions seem lame, I'm a new enthusiast. Thanks in advance.

I feed them every other day like I was ordered from the place I got them from. I got three tetras, all look alike. But when I feed them they all swim so fast I'm not sure who's getting food. I dropped 4 pieces this morning but for all I know the same fish could have eaten all of the food. Any ideas how to keep track and make sure I feed each and every one of them?
