Only very rarely would a pond need an air pump, especially a lined and filtered pond. If you fine for some reason you pond does need an air pump, the important factor is the depth of the pond rather than the total gallonage. he deeper the water, the more pressure and the more pressure it will take to get air out the end of a tube at the bottom. This pressure created by the pump is called the head pressure and is listed on larger air pumps. Check the package for the working depth and be sure any you by will work at least to the depth of your pond. Personally, I would suggest you buy a pump able to work at at least double the depth of your pond so it doesn't have to work too hard and the seals etc inside the pump will last much longer.
