Question for any aquatic snail keepers out there - my Golden Apple snail female has become very sluggish and inactive the past 2 - 3 weeks. She climbs right up on top of the filter head out of the water and closes her shell tight shut, and seems uninterested in eating. Sometimes I find her on the floor of the tank on her side, half hanging out of her shell. She doesn't even move into her shell when I pick her out of the tank.
She does have a fully grown large male Apple Snail in the same tank with her, and they could be mating, though from what I can see she's hardly interested!!
I don't think there's anything much wrong with the water as I have eight other Apple snails and they're all happy, alert and (very) hungry. Though they are quite a bit younger than her - she was the oldest as I bought her as an adult, when the others were tiny babies!
Could this be an inactive stage, or a sort of hibernation? Or is she sick, or possibly just old?
Thanks :o)
