I don't know why everyone thinks snails are so horrible! Seriosuly, when done right snails are a very important part of any ecosystem. You probably don't even need to buy any, they will hitchike in on your plants at some point. The will help with algae too, but too much food will eventaully equal too many snails, so start small. NEVER bleach your pond! If you don't want snails you can do a bleach solution with your plants before they go in the pond, but NEVER bleach a pond!!!
NEVER release any type of snail (or anything else) into any wild ecosystem such as a city pond, lake, or stream. Introducing a species that doesn't belong can and will wreack havok on an ecosystem and is very illegal anyway. Introducing snails to yuor controlled ecosystem can be very beneficial.

snails are BAD, very bad
if you do not gave plants or fish in the pond add a small amount {about 1 cup} of bleach, this will clear your pond up in a few days. If you have fish or plants, try introducing common gold fish they eat a lot of algae, if possible shade the pond from direct sun light this also will help control algae growth. Good Luck!!!
