Fish - September 2006

so i did it all wrong, got a new tank and stocked it too soon, ive been following all the rescue advice ive been given on previous requests, got a charcoal filter, been performing 1/4 water changes, did a gravel vac, cut right down on the feeding, but 2 of my fish died last week, and yesterday went away for the night and most of the rest were floating on the top dead, upon my return this morning.
where do i go from here??? i now know about the nitrogen cycle and that it wont kick in until after 3 weeks, so do i just leave my tank (ive had it 2 weeks now) and continue doing !/4 changes and restock, slowly, in a couple of weeks time, or due to the deaths of my fish, must i strip everything down and start again....????

all serious advice is welcome...

I recently purchased two dragon eels, approximately 5 inches long each. The main question i have is how long will they be able to get along with my freshwater angelfish (3 in. tall for now)
also, my roomate has had a dragon eel in a 20 gallon freshwater tank along with a bala shark and a small school of scisortail rasboras (I think that's what they're called), and i've been looking around online and things that i read say that the dragon eel is a saltwater fish that prefers a cooler temp. I'm wondering, if this is true how is my roommate's eel still alive? Or is it true, what can YOU tell me about the dragon eel?

I am thinking about buying a small aquarium (either around 1.5 - 5 gallon) to put in my dorm room. I know you can keep bettas, but i was wanting something else. What type of fish can you put together in a community aquarium? I know i can't have more than five fish with a 5 gallon tank.

...seems depressed. He is always at the bottom of his tank, but he has a very healty appetite. It looks like he has a little fin rot on his tail fin, which I treated after I changed the water today. I used to have three bettas, but two died. Could it be that he misses them?

I'm such a bonehead and completely forgot that the "rule" is 1 Inch of fish per gallon, I just bought some more fish and have like 20 little fishies in my 10 gallon tank, all various kinds of tetras.....I keep seeing at the petstores they have lottts of little fishies in their tanks and seems like more then 1inch of fish per gallon, so if it is ok at the pet store my fishies should be ok here right???? Has anyone had 20 little fishies in their 10 gallon fishtank and have them all survive??

I am thinking of getting neon tetras for my community fish tank. I have 2 Giant Danios, 2 Bala Sharks, and a few other large fish. When I put 4 snakeskin guppies in this tank, and they were eaten, but I put 4 other guppies, and they were even smaller, and they were'nt Eaten.

I have a 55 G tank with 4 cichlids in it. They range from 2 to 1.5 inches in length. There is one that will not let his tank mates rest. They each have plenty of hiding places, but this bully will chase the others around all day long. What can I do with this cichlid?
