Okay im getting my friend a fish for kris kringle and i am not sure wheather you can leave them in the bag that they come in for about 3 hours or wheather you have to transfer them into a tank or bowl very soon. I know that you have to put the bag in the tank/bowl for 15mins to get the temp correct but does the water in the bowl have to be a certain temperature and if so what and how do i get it to that temperature???

One of my heater is broken and I just got a new one. In the instruction, it says to wait 24 hours after adding the heater in order to add fish? So does this mean that I have to remove the fish, then add the heater, wait a day, then put the fish back in?
Stupid question, I know, but I don't want boiled fish the next day.
I want to know how a heater works, does it heat the water within hours, or does it take a day?

Thank you!

Hi, I just bought a mini crab from Petsmart, and a guy there told me it was ok to keep with my other fish if I gave it some land to crawl on, which it has. I looked it up online and found out it was a fiddler crab, and some of the websites said that it does best in brackish water.
I've only had it for a a few days, but it is healthy and is doing a good job cleaning debris in my tank and has left my fish alone, and I would like to be able to keep it. Does anyone know if the crab can be kept in freshwater at all, or if I should return it, and if I can keep it, does it have any other special water requirements? Also, if I do need to return it, are there any other small freshwater crabs that won't harm my fish?
thanks for any advice

I was wondering, because about a month and a half or so ago, my daughter who is in the first grade brought home a guppy and a snail from school to keep. So we put it in the family fish tank and they've done great. Well today, she came to me and told me that her snail had a couple of babys and at fist I didnt believe her. When I looked in the fish tank, sure enough, I saw 3 other snails. But as I looked a little further around, I saw over 17 other little snails! How is this? And will this keep happening, untill there are thousands of snails in the fish tank?

Hell, I have a 30 gallon brackish water set up. I have a violet goby who is doing great, and 2 small glass fish(don't worry, they aren't the painted type) I want to get a figure 8 puffer, but am wondering how well they would do. I have done a bunch of research and realize that it depends on a lot of different factors. But I am wondering about personal experience. If anyone has kept these types of fish together I would love your input. Thanks!

I have a tank with 5 danio fish. I set the tank up and purchased the danio fish on 11th November 2007 (just under 3 weeks ago). They have been happy and healthy. But today I found one zebra danio dead (he was white with red patches on him) and he was stuck between two rocks at the bottom of the tank! Also found a snail this morning in the tank (I think he may have hitchhiked on the 2 small fresh plants I brought at the weekend). What do I do about the snail(s) and could it/they have killed the danio?

I just wanted some advice as I am now concerned that the rest could die and they are beautiful fish.

I have had my aquarium for about 3 months now. I have 5 Tiger Barbs and 1 Red Tail Shark. There have never been bubbles floating around my aquarium up until about a week ago. I don't know why they are there or what is causing them. Obvioulsy they are not harmful but just wondering why they are showing up now and not before.

The only change I have made recently is to thier food. I had flakes and now I am giving them freeze dried medley.

i have a 75 gal tank with a small bass in it.Ive had this problem before and i added TLC for freshwater aquariums and it fixed the problem pretty much right away. Well after everything was good a couple weeks later i cleaned the tank and i had to go out of town. Nothing special just a 10% water change and filtration of the gravel. I come back a couple days later and it has gradually progressed to a yellow/green color and seems to be getting worse even though i added the same TLC i did last time to try and fix it. I thought the TLC would fix the problem this time but it seems to be making the color worse. What do i do?

I would like to place a small clay pot in my tank to make it look nicer. I would use a plane pot that does not have any paints on it, like the ones you can buy at walmart for $1.
