One of my heater is broken and I just got a new one. In the instruction, it says to wait 24 hours after adding the heater in order to add fish? So does this mean that I have to remove the fish, then add the heater, wait a day, then put the fish back in?
Stupid question, I know, but I don't want boiled fish the next day.
I want to know how a heater works, does it heat the water within hours, or does it take a day?

Thank you!

I think those directions are written for if you're just setting up your tank.

All you need to do is to put the heater in the tank and let it sit for about 15 minutes before you plug it in (so it gets to the same temperature as the water and so the internal sensor can measure the water temperature). If the glass is cold and the internal filament heats up, you could shatter the heater.

If it's a type where you can set the exact temperature you want, set it a few degrees lower at first - that way if it turns on a little too soon, it doesn't get the water too warm. Then just raise the setting slowly until it comes on. This should be at or slightly above the current water temperature. If it's just one that has a + or - and you adjust to raise or lower, start with a low setting and raise it slowly till the light comes on. Let it sit till the light goes off and see what the water temperature is then. Continue to raise the temperature slowly (no more than 1-2 degrees per hour) so the fish don't go into a thermal shock by having the temperature raised too quickly and so the heater doesn't overshoot the temperature you want.

It normally takes a few hours if the water is room temperature, but if you just fill the tank with cold water, it may take a day because of the amount the temperature needs to rise. That's probably why the direction tell you to wait a day.

Just rinse it off, and place in the tank. (They say that cause some people throw in their heater, and turn it all the way up thinking that its on max power, and not realizing that that controls the temp.) Watch the temp. to make sure its alright.

it prob takes 24 hours to regulate the temp that is why it would want you to wait to put your fish in there maybe
