i have a 75 gal tank with a small bass in it.Ive had this problem before and i added TLC for freshwater aquariums and it fixed the problem pretty much right away. Well after everything was good a couple weeks later i cleaned the tank and i had to go out of town. Nothing special just a 10% water change and filtration of the gravel. I come back a couple days later and it has gradually progressed to a yellow/green color and seems to be getting worse even though i added the same TLC i did last time to try and fix it. I thought the TLC would fix the problem this time but it seems to be making the color worse. What do i do?

You have to have someone clean it and check the water. don't orry the fishes will be ok. It will clear up after it is cleaned but after a few days. Keep the fish tank aay from direct sunlight and do not over feed them. Those are the main results of a green yellow tank.

Did you leave the tank light on while you were out of town? Leaving the light on too often can cause major algae blooms, turning your water greenish. Direct sunlight on the tank can cause the same thing. If that's the case, make sure the tank isn't getting direct sunlight and leave the light off for a few days, that will clear it up, as algae can't photosynthesize with no light.

Ok. You've cleaned it. Now you have a problem. Maybe something in the TLC is making it like that,so stop using it. If you stop and it continues, you may need a new filter or a new tank.

Do you have driftwood in the tank? That can make it sometimes go "tea" colored. If you do, remove it and boil it 3 or 4 times (doing the boil, rinse, repeat sequence) and then it will be good to be put back in the tank.

Also check your lighting may also be affecting the colour you see.

Is your tank getting hit by sunlight? That could promote growth. Otherwise, perhaps you need to try some different algae treatments or do several minor water changes in a row.

Do a full water change and check your ph nitrate and ammonia levels. If any of these are off they may be causing the problem.

Then it must be obvious that your filter is knackered.

Go to a fish tank specialist for help.
