Hi! I really want to get a seahorse. I've been researching for days and here’s what I found (just wanted to OK it with you guys (&ask a lot of questions lol)

Alreat, so I'm planning on getting a pygmy seahorse aka dwarf seahorse aka hippocampus zosterae. I have a question already: Does anyone know where to get it? I would like to have it captive breed.

For the tank set up I have another question: On many websites it says 10 gallons are too BIG?! They say that I would have to feed them a lot, as they only eat live food such as brine shrimp, which are tiny. It also says that I would need 10 dwarf seahorses! They say for a beginner a 2-5 gallon is best! What do you guys think?

Here’s the tank set up:
5/10 gallon tank,
black sand (bought at pet store)
sponge filter<---any recommendations btw?
Some plants (live&fake)
driftwood
heater

If I got the 10 gallon I geuss I would have 10? If i got the 5 gallon 2? idk! I also might get some hermit crabs (small ones)

My betta fish hasn't eaten in over a week and a half. Also lately he has just been sitting at the bottom of the bowl, hardly ever moving and never coming up to breathe. He just sits there slowly breathing from the bottom, I'm afraid he won't get enough air and he has to be hungry right?? What do I do?

I'm looking to get a few lake Tanganyikan cichlids for my tank but it is currently filled with soft water. I currently have a few tiger barbs in there just to get my tank cycled and will be removing them to start up another tank with. I was planning on slowly adding hard or RO water to the tank once I got the new fish. So how does soft water effect them?

Ok, well i just went to a greenway and there was a river and on the shore their were a bunch of clams(i dont know weather thats fresh... or saltwater) and i dont know how to feed it or what to feed it also i took some pond water with me and i also have city water and i combined them into one really small travel sized tank, and i dont know if i should empty everything and fill it up with city water or just keep it the same? and i also thought that clams feed off of bacteria but i think im wrong... so if someone could tell me what to do it would be greatly appreciated: )

ok i want to make an ecosphere(for those of you who dont know what that is, its a self contained ecosystem that requires no care except for proper lighting) ive seen them at brookstone with shrimp in them but i wanna go a step further and add fish. the problem is that i need fish that will be able to survive and multiply slowly in a small place(i was thinking zebra danios or guppys) but then i need something to keep the population down like a top predator so it doesnt get out of hand and they all die cause that would be bad. but hen i also need something to keep the pradator in check so it doesnt kill them all. i would also add some shrimp, snails, assort. amphipods and plants. and the container would be like either a very large glass jar or i was thinking maybe a 10gal water jug but the container has to be air tight so if you guys could help with some ideas for all of this stuff then please let me know...its more of an experiment than a pet

I'm looking at setting up a 300+ gallon aquarium for amazon stingrays and was wondering if I could get away with a school of tetra's in with them. My thinking is that with them being bottom feeders, the tetras might be okay given enough cover to bed down in at night....

Any thoughts?

Hello!
I have a 20 gallon tank..ph is 7.0, and ammonia and nitrates and nitrites were just checked today and were good...I have had this tank for almost three months...in it, I have
2 Balloon Mollies
2 Buenas Aries tetras
and an Algae Eater.
They have been thriving and doing really well since I set up the tank. Today, i added two dwarf Gouramis...a red flame and and powder blue. They seem to be doing okay, eating fine and still moving their fins...but the blue one stays around the bottom of the tank..hiding behind a plant. The red one spends most of the time hiding in the pirate ship I have...is this normal? I read that Gourami's are top to middle dwellers...is it okay for them to be hiding at the bottom since this is their first day in the tank? Also, I let them acclimate for 20 minutes...please give me your input! Thank you!.

I just bought a 55 gal fresh water tank that came with the following fish in it:
2 clown loaches
1 corydora
4 tiger barbs
1black fin shark
1 bala shark
2 opaline gourami
1 pleco
1 golden barb
All but the pleco and the gourami are only 1-2 inches ling or less, the gourmai are 3" and the pleco is 4". I know they will grow, but the tank looks very empty right now in terms of fish.

I'm kind of new to this big of a tank and most fish in general so please bear with me, I am trying to research and find out if there are any "pretty" fish that would fit in with this group. Most of mine are shades of silvers and light blues, and I want to add color? Or are there any long tailed or fancy looking fish that would get along? About half of what I have are listed as semi-aggressive, the others are peaceful, but none of them seem agressive toward each other??? What can I add, or what fish that I already have would prevent me from adding the pretty and peaceful fish?

I've been cycling a 20g tank for a little under three weeks now, with three danios and five white clouds. Over the last three days, my ammonia, which had been hovering at around 0.25 ppm, has suddenly risen to about 0.5-1.0 ppm. I'd been doing 25% water changes about twice a week, although I'm doing them more frequently now with the higher ammonia. I also feed the fish a small pinch of food every other day.

Is this my long-awaited ammonia spike? If so, how soon should it take to go down to 0 (it's been spiking for about 3 days now)? Also, my substrate is sand, with a little gravel mixed in. Do tanks with sand take longer to cycle?

My plecostamous disappeared! I just got him today, and the last time i saw him, he was behind my heater and fine, then i looked, i didn't see him, so i left for about an hour and a half. I came back and he still wasn't there, so i took my net and stirred up the rocks a little bit, but still didn't see him, i looked in all the little bridges and things, i looked behind/in all the plants, and EVERYWHERE. I checked around the tank, because i read that they could jump out (???) STILL COULDN'T FIND HIM i kind of checked the filter, but am a little freaked to look there, i didn't see him in there though PLEASE HEEELLLPPP MEEE i really miss him ='(

my poor betta fish hardly ever moves! he is usually stationary but is moving his fins like crazy (kinda looks like a hummingbird?). this leads me to believe he has sumthing wrong with his swim bladder, tho i cannot be certain....when i put a mirror in front of him he does nothing. he doesn't eat. his color has turned from red to a silverish on his head/by his gills. umm, yeah he hasn't eaten in 3 days even when i put food up close to him. any suggestions? oh i also bought BettaZing and was told it is an all-around preventative. i followed the instructions and put 1 drop in, but he's still sick. that was 3 days ago. oh and i did a full water change too w/ tap water that had been sitting out for a couple days to dechlorify. please help! i dont want to lose mhy friend!!
