I just bought a 55 gal fresh water tank that came with the following fish in it:
2 clown loaches
1 corydora
4 tiger barbs
1black fin shark
1 bala shark
2 opaline gourami
1 pleco
1 golden barb
All but the pleco and the gourami are only 1-2 inches ling or less, the gourmai are 3" and the pleco is 4". I know they will grow, but the tank looks very empty right now in terms of fish.

I'm kind of new to this big of a tank and most fish in general so please bear with me, I am trying to research and find out if there are any "pretty" fish that would fit in with this group. Most of mine are shades of silvers and light blues, and I want to add color? Or are there any long tailed or fancy looking fish that would get along? About half of what I have are listed as semi-aggressive, the others are peaceful, but none of them seem agressive toward each other??? What can I add, or what fish that I already have would prevent me from adding the pretty and peaceful fish?

If you plan on keeping the loaches, and the sharks,I would not get any other fish. All loaches get very big,and clowns get the biggest.Same goes for the sharks. A bala shark and will grow to be about 15 inches,I'm not sure what the black fin shark is,sorry. So with the fish you have in that size of tank, you are fully stocked.May be over stocked. You might want to check the filtration you have, and consider upgrading when the fish start to grow and produce more waste

Just give it some time, all though it looks empty now,in a year you won't be thinking that at all.The hardest thing about keeping fish is being patient.

Check out fishlore.com It's a very informitive and helpfull site.

Good Luck!

I will only cover one of these listed above for you.

You need to get the black fin shark out of there. A black fin shark, or Columbian shark, or Silver tipped shark are all the same thing. This fish is a brackish fish, all the way up to full blown marine. I myself, have a 125 gallon aquarium with 7 of these fish. Not only will it need salt water, more and more as it gets bigger, it will need a larger tank. It will need a min of 100 gallons each. Originally, I had 2 in a 75 gallon tank. They outgrew the tank quickly and I upgraded them and adopted 5 more to the larger tank. Almost all of the other types of fish that you have listed will not accept salt in their water. Take this fish back to the store ASAP or it will die. If it doesn't die, it will live a very unhappy life. Not to mention the fact that it has a very large mouth and will certainly start making meals out of some of it's smaller tank mates.

The Pleco will outgrow this tank also, they get to at least 18" full grown.

*Oh as someone suggested above ^^^ Mollys are very colorful, but are also a brackish fish and need salt in their water.

You could(should) add more Cories, they're schooling fish and are lots more fun in groups of six or more. The same is true for the tiger barbs, clown loaches and possibly the golden barb also. The sharks will someday cause problems and the Gourami may get a little pushy when they mature, but if the group all grows up together all may be well.

Do not get platties, mollies swordtails or any other live bearers. The fish that you have would eat the babies for a snack. The fish that you do have come in different colors. Go to different pet stores and see if you can find some of the same types of fish but in different colors....

Well, I would definately get some mor cory cats---they like to school, and you can get different varities(they are one of my favorite fish!!!)
Also, gouramis come in a ton of different varities and colors-they are pretty cool fish
You want to try to have fish of the same size in your tank if possible. I would just do some research on community fish, and see what match up well together. I have platies and I just love them, but I'm not sure if they would go well in your tank.
