My betta fish hasn't eaten in over a week and a half. Also lately he has just been sitting at the bottom of the bowl, hardly ever moving and never coming up to breathe. He just sits there slowly breathing from the bottom, I'm afraid he won't get enough air and he has to be hungry right?? What do I do?

I don't have anti-chlorine stuff in the water but I wait 24 hours before I change the water and that is supposed to be fine.

I have had him for about 2 months, I feed him betta pellets 2 about 3 times a day, and I change the water about once a week.

I think he might be blind! He keeps swimming into the sides of the bowl and into the pebbles at the bottom!

What temperature is your tank/bowl? Betta must be kept in water that is at least 75 degrees (F). If your bowl/tank is unheated, then you need to get a heater immediately and ensure a consistent 75-80 degree temperature for your tropical betta.

Also, make sure that you do not have floating plants or other obstructions that will prevent the fish from surfacing easily.

You should also know that while bettas can be survive in small tanks, they actually do much better in 2.5 - 5 gallon filtered tanks. Bowls and unfiltered tanks are really not suitable for any fish. Bowls and other unfiltered containers are for candy and flowers, not fish. If your betta is in a bowl/vase, try to get it into a small filtered tank. They aren't expensive. A complete set-up with heater, plants and thermometer will run under $30.

How long have you had the fish? How old is the fish? Do you do regular (weekly) water changes with dechlorinator? What type of food are you feeding?

The anti chlorine stuff is needed for the betta to survive so I recomend that you put that in ASAP and make sure the water is just right (room temprature)

Do you have anti-chlorine stuff in the water? Available at pet stores, and your fish have to have it or they will die, but the pet stores don't push it; they'd rather sell more fish.
