I've had my 55gal setup for about 6 months now. For the last 2 weeks or so, I had severe ammonia problems that I could not get under control, after daily water changes, using supplements, etc. So I decided to start from scratch and empty everything and start over. I cleaned out the filter, emptied all the water, removed all the decorations, etc. (2 days ago) All of the chemical levels are now normal and I even added a 2nd bio-wheel filter to the tank and yet my water is staying somewhat cloudy! Can anyone help with what the problem may be? I figured the tank might have to go through the cycle again, but all of the levels are fine, so I dont know if it is or not. I've even used a water clarifier and nothing seems to be helping. Any other ideas or help, please?

I'm breeding plant snails to feed my puffer. I was wondering if there was anything else I could breed for food that only requires one tank ... meaning, I don't want to have to seperate the males from the females when there are eggs/babies (ex: ghost shrimp). Any suggestions?

It laid the eggs just above the aquarium water. What should i do with them? If i dont take them out, will they dry out because they are out of the water?

I have a 20 gallon saltwater tank and I have the following problems:
1. The only fish I can keep in it are damsels all others die off rather quickly. Damsels last me anywhere from 6 months to 1.5 years. Is that a normal life for damsels?
2. Hermit crabs for some reason even if I feed them pellets and even if they get plenty of algae once they get past a certain size they die off. I had suggestions that its because of lack of shells but, literally, my whole aquarium floor has empty shells to choose from.
3. I currently have just a normal filter on it and clean the tank/change about 2-3 gallons of water once a week. Any suggestions on what other types of equipment I could use for such a small tank? Uv sterylizers and protein skimmers always seem to be made only for larger tanks.
I'd ideally want to make my aquarium self sufficient me only needing to change water but Ive had it for years and I never get the right setup.

Some details for you: 30 gallon tank, 2 female guppies, 2 males guppies, 6 glass bloodfin tetras, 1 blue gourami, 1 small catfish, 1 little aquarium frog.

I'm almost positive i bought my one female guppy pregnant. If not; she's pregnant now! Haha, I had guppies before. And acutally one had babies before too. There was about 15 of them and they all died within two months.

I have one of these: http://www.petco.com/Assets/product_images/1%5C1083810255B.jpg

that the mother will go in once I'm sure she's going to have the drop within the next couple of days. Once she has all the babies, should I immediatlly put them in the ten gallon tank?

What should the ten gallon tank contain? Should i put snails in there? I plan on using fake plants.

thank you :)

I am wondering if anyone has a LOT of experience in keeping ghost shrimp in an aquarium. They are breeding, well fed and disease free. I am unable to find much accurate information on them that is specific. I understand that their life span is only about 2 years max. How can you tell when a ghost shrimp is old? I have a couple of shrimp that have turned opaque (you can no longer "see" through them, hence they are no longer ghost-like), and yet they are not molting. They are not sick, continue to roam the tank and eat well, and also interact with the other shrimp. I am wondering if this is a sign that they are close to the end of their life cycle. These shrimp are also quite large and therefore fully grown. Serious people only please with experience in this field.

i'm getting an oscar fish on saturday...What will i need... i already got a established tank so i'll just use some water from that and add some tap water to balance it out and some spring water too. I have a turtle in my established turtle tank..so yeah a turtle is basically a walking ammonia paradise. Plus the water from the pet store it should be fine. What fish should i add and shrimp. And what gallon tank should i get for a baby oscar. I was thinking a 20? and a good filter and some veggetation. He should do well. How long will it take for him to start eating will he eat the moment i put him in the tank?

I have a 3 foot tank with a rainbow shark, a electric yellow, a blue, a silver shark, 3 guppies, a bristlenose catfish and a golden catfish. All really baby size lol. Before i put any decent fish in my tank i decided to cycle it with feeder fish. (I didnt loose any) Now i was going to take them out but ive grown attacted to them and i cant decide whether they are platties or mollies. They are really small and most have black speckles except one red one and one black one. Help how can i tell since they are so small? Ive looked on the net and im still confused? Is there somthing that one has that the other doesnt? Thanking you for replying Angel xoxo

((((((Also all of my fish get on fine even though some are not recommended to mix.)))))

as you see there is a line or 2 of ripped or loose scales. and it looks white. I always see the bigger platy chaseing around the new one. people say there just " trying to breed" but i dont think that when there breeding the fish would be bitting its scales off. And there is no disease in my tank either. I do a 20% water change every day. tell me what you think.

I have a couple questions:

1) What fish should I put in a 36 gallon tank? I have a lot of guppies and platies in my 18 gallon so now I'm GOING to TRY to start another one.

2) How do I know when my tank is full? I have a bunch of guppies and platies in the 18 gallon and I'm not sure how many is too many.

3) Is breeding grass good for the babies when they're born? All of my fish get pregnant so I decided to get breeding grass. It's tall faux grass that hides the babies. Do you think this will help?

Thanks! :-)

I recently had a major ich and fungal breakout. Im planning on re-starting my tank. But, I would need to keep the same fish. I have 1 platy, 1 cory and 2 neons that survived. My parents won't let me return the fish or give the fish to my school tank. After I have cycled the tank and re-decorate it, would it be possible to house, 6 phantoms and 4 Kuhli Loaches with the fish I have?
