Gouramis are quite peaceful with other fish, but they can be very aggressive towards their own species... Instead, I suggest one Dwarf Gourami, 7 Neon Tetras, and MALE Guppies... With females, you will be inundated with a constant flow of fry which are virtually worthless... Even buying solely females is not safe because they are often pregnant when they arrive in your tank (and Guppies can store sperm for months and use it to impregnate themselves multiple times)... Contact me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Dwarf Gouramis will not see Neons as food unless they are fry (which you will never see in pet stores). At half an inch, they are already out of the Gourami's possibility of prey.

Your mix sounds just fine as long as the gouramis are getting along. They are very non-aggressive towards other fish but may become aggressive towards their own.
Keeping with a Southeastern Asia theme I might suggest:
(2) Honey Gouramis
(6) Red Line rasboras or Elegant Rasboras
(2) Skunk loach

The only thing that I would be worried about, is even the gouramis that are supposedly community fish can still be aggressive. So there is a possibility they will attack the smaller fish. But with a 55g tank there shouldn't be any territorial fights with fish that small.
You should be just fine, just keep an eye on those gouramis.

For a six gallon. i could say ONE betta. you could no longer positioned 2 male, or 2 woman betta's in a single tank with out them battling. Or, a male and a woman, the male will kill her, likely. you need to no longer have a complex guppy in a six gallon, and have it stay fortuitously. Nor, are you able to with neon tetras, because you like a team of those, a minimum of 5 or greater. So, possibly you may desire to get a male, OR a woman betta fish. : ] they are fairly attractive. yet be sure to no longer run a clear out in there, or in case you do make it the place it does not make the water circulate lots. The betta heavily isn't chuffed, particularly despite if it relatively is a male betta, simply by fact they choose to make bubble nests. sturdy success with what ever fish you chosen. And, i'm chuffed you're unlike a number of those people here this night, asking in case you could in good shape assorted six inch fish in a 5 gallon tank. a minimum of you picked smaller fish. : ] Like I pronounced, sturdy success!
