That's actually more common than you would think
most of the time they survive, but a lot of times they can die after giving birth, it's a lot of stress which they are beeing put through
Sorry for your loss, hope your babies will survive :)

Hope that helps
Good luck

Usually they do not die, but they do give live birth and just like humans, this can cause stress and pain. I have never heard of a molly's eyes getting dark. Sometimes when an animal of mine dies I look for reasons for it to be my fault. This may be your mind playing tricks on you. Also, whenever a fish dies, even if it is killed by another, you should check your water. A lot of pet stores do this for free, such as petsmart. It most likely died of giving birth. Interesting question though. Good luck with the little ones.

this is somewhat some issues undesirable water high quality, and/or undesirable nutrition spring to innovations. Mollies are very under pressure after giving delivery, and issues that innovations not have led to dying can kill them. i might 1st verify your nitrate ranges ideally they might desire to be very low. (under 20 ppm) additionally what are you feeding the molly. Molly are omnivores, and want a honest quantity of greens. women additionally want an excellent style of protein while the are pregnant. i opt to propose a mix of algae flakes, and freeze dried brine shrimp.

They do not normally die during the birthing process, but I would guess that with any species giving live births it is possible. Usally though they multiply endlessly and in abundance.

maybe she was already sick and the giving birth part made her weaker and she died! none of my mollies ever had babies so i don't know but when my guppies had babies they were okay.
