They CAN live in tap water but its not good for them if its untreated

As for how long they will live, it depends on the type of tap water, the type of goldfish and the health of the goldfish.

If you dont want to use and water treatments, bottled water is good as it doesnt have chlorine in it

If you have that stuff that gets rid of chlorine, use it right now, with the clean tap water. Or if you can't get to a store, fill the new bowl but don't put the fish in until tomorrow. That gives the chlorine a little time to evaporate. Also be careful the water temperature is the same as in the dirty tank. If it's really critical, and you have several bottles of spring water, you could use that (NOT distilled water).

Hello again Abby, please do your research-tap water contains chlorine & chlorine is a killer. You need to add dechlorinator liquid to your water before putting fish in it-you can get this at any pet or aquarium store. When you put a fish in untreated tap water the effect on their gills is similar to what we experience when we get soap in our eyes but the difference is they can't make it stop & it will very quickly kill them. Also you will need a suitable sized tank with a fitted lid & a filter rated for twice the volume of your tank. One Goldfish needs at least a 10 gallon tank, 2 need a 20 & so on. The link below tells you all you need to keep your Goldfish happy & healthy for many years.

Once I could keep 2 gold fishes in a simple pot for 3 years, using tap water, but I had a bottle which I stored the water for 24 hours before I change the water, it means each time I changed the water, I refilled the bottle for the next time. but there are some other tips which are worth to know:
1. I fed them with boiled rice or peas or beans, which I cooked my self & kept in refrigerator.
2.Your reservoir should not have a door, and a pot with a wider diameter at the top is preferred, because the more the surface area, the more chlorine will evaporate.
3.My fish didn't die in their pot! I just tried to set them free in a pool in a park near by, but at the moment a duck came & ate them both!! :(( anyway they died in freedom!
Hope I could help!
good luck!

They are pretty hardy, but they shouldn't be in untreated tap water long. Go to a pet store and just get the drops to treat the water, a single bottle will last a long time.

Oh sure! They can live in tap water but let it sit for a full day. Then it will be aged enough to throw in the fish.

Tap water, eh? This is chlorinated and will potentially kill your fish. They can live in it for about 3 days depending on how chlorinated it is. Just buy some dechlorinator or let the tap water set out for about a week. I really recommend the dechlorinator, it is SUPER cheap. Good luck.

take a pitcher of water from the sink or fridge and leave it out on the counter(room temp) for 24 hours before you put the fish in it and it should be fine just make sure to clean the tank and replace the water often and always leave the water out for 24 hours

not long at all!

The chlorine and chloramine int he water will kill the fish within a few hours.

Go back to the pet shop and get a $1.99 bottle of dechlorinator
