Hello!
I have a 20 gallon tank..ph is 7.0, and ammonia and nitrates and nitrites were just checked today and were good...I have had this tank for almost three months...in it, I have
2 Balloon Mollies
2 Buenas Aries tetras
and an Algae Eater.
They have been thriving and doing really well since I set up the tank. Today, i added two dwarf Gouramis...a red flame and and powder blue. They seem to be doing okay, eating fine and still moving their fins...but the blue one stays around the bottom of the tank..hiding behind a plant. The red one spends most of the time hiding in the pirate ship I have...is this normal? I read that Gourami's are top to middle dwellers...is it okay for them to be hiding at the bottom since this is their first day in the tank? Also, I let them acclimate for 20 minutes...please give me your input! Thank you!.

The short acclimation time probably shocked them a little bit. Look up the drip method of acclimation, you will shock the fish much less and you will avoid the risk of transmitting pet store diseases to your main tank. It takes more time but it's much better for the fish.

Gouramis, like Bettas, need to get to the top of the water in order to breathe. Your little guys will eventually become acclimated and come out of hiding - out of necessity - they gotta breathe.
