In many species of Puffers, the females have perfectly white undersides while males have a brownish streak on their bellies. If this is what you are describing, you have nothing to worry about. Do you know what kind of Puffers you have? Different Puffers will need VERY different care... There are Puffers that require full saltwater, Puffers that require brackish water (a mixture of salt and freshwater), and Puffers that require full freshwater. It sounds like you are describing Dwarf Puffers, a full freshwater variety. They are very aggressive, so be sure to provide plenty of hiding spaces and tall plants to break their lines of sight. Also, be sure the tank is at least 10 gallons, has a filter, and a heater. You will need to do weekly 25% water changes to keep the toxic waste products down, but that should be more than worth it to see your happy Puffers. Contact me if you have any questions.

Those are sad fish. Something in the tank must be wrong. How big is the tank? What are you feeding them? What kind of puffers are they? Have you done any water tests? When was the last water change?
