Why are they doing this? Is it some kind of mating signal to the male guppy's?

Probably just relaxing. Many of my livebearers do it.

it could just be the female is just going to have baby guppys . you know when a guppy is going to have babys when it gets a dark black spot tords the back of its body..

Actually, it means they are pregnant. Keep it safe, and put the babys in a seperate net, or a baby's net.
