A couple of days ago, I asked if it was possible that the MALE guppy I got from the fish store could be a female and I got a lot of great responses! Thank You! However, some of the pictures were not clear enough for me to see the difference in the anal fin. But I still dont know what the problem is... He sits at the bottom of the tank (4 days now). He eats when its feeding time but just lays at the bottom of the tank all day. If its a female, how long until she would give birth? If its a male, what the hell is wrong and what could I do? I dont think the fish store I bought it from isnt real informative, if I could email someone a picture of my guppy maybe someone can help me identify the problem.

although i have a lovely 5ft tropical tank, i also have a 2ft one in my kitchen with 5 mixed fantails, and a weather loach, the tank is filthy all the time, the filter needs washing at least once a week due to the mess these guys make...i want to get a bigger tank for them and thought the bi orbs are supposed to be good low maintance tanks? any experience with these, or i'd like something a bit different or unusual for a new tank, any manufactuers or idea's? i did see one which was 2 pillars with a tunnel on top like a door frame shape?

I have recently added aquarium salt to my goldfish aquarium. It was reccomended since I have recently been treating one of my fantails for fin/tailrot (she developed it right after I bought her). I was wondering whats the purpose for aquarium salt, and how often do I add it to the water since it doesn't filter out or evaporate?? Do I add it when doing partial water changes or complete water changes??

Thanks!!

I'm going to get a betta fish and I've read the books and online info, but theya re all kind of if you want to spend a fortune and are a breeder. I bought a 2 gallon tank, flake food, blood worms, water purifyier and decorations. Is this good? Is a heater really important? How do I make sure I'm buying a healthy fish? Anything would be great!! Thanks so much!!

I'm planning on getting a fish (one or couple of breeds) for an aquarium (either a salt or fresh water wish): any time of fish... Money or equipment (size and complexity) is not an option -- no matter how expensive it'll be...

What do I have to know about Salt and Fresh water fishes before I'll get one? How big can some get? For example: Lionfish, Pufferfish, Tetras and Goldfishes. Are there specific stores and/or locations where I can go for the "How to Care for Your Fish" Class? Which breeds can live in harmony with each other, without eating one another alive? How do I keep the fish healty and in perfect condition for months to come? What kind of aquarium do I get? Where is it supposed to be located in the house / appartment? What do the fish eat? If I'll give a fish a name will it like it? How can I make sure that the fish is alright? Is there a Fish Vet I can take it to? :)

Thank you so much for your help and assistance :)

P.S.: Can you teach a fish to do any tricks? :)

I just bought a livebearer fish yesterday (specifcally a pregnant female guppy) because I really enjoy watching them give birth and taking care of the babies. She has the dark spot near the bottom of her back fin and is fairly fat. When should I put her in a separate tank to give birth? I don't want to put her in the separate tank too early so she doesn't become stressed and then won't give birth. Sometimes, she swims up and down the sides of the tank...is this some kind of sign of her giving birth soon? Thank you

I currently have a 1.66 gallon tank that is empty in my apartment. I used to have a betta but after a year he died. I've cleaned the tank out, and am now looking for something to put in it. It sits away from any direct sunlight and it has an undergravel filter. Any suggestions?

My tap water has a pH of 8.1 and I do regular water change.

How can I reduce the pH to 7.1 which is the conducive pH for freshwater fishes. I dont have access to Fish medicine or tablets in our place, so would appreciate if you could give some "Home Remedy"...

I have Cichilids, Mollies, Tiger barbs, Widow Tetras in this 60+ gallon tank. They have been doing good for almost 3 months now.

I want to use Activated Carbon granules to help clean the water of my Aquarium. I have a submersible power filter which can take any media. The questions are
1. Is it safe to keep the carbon thing inside the aquarium inside some material in the first place.
2. What material should I use to enclose the activated carbon into and then put it in the power filter.
3. How often should I replace them?
