I have had several Beta's, Two I had (in different tanks) that I called Frank and Jessie, as in James, lives three years. I was very sad when they died. Jessie died first then Frank about two months later. I think three to four years is average when you take care of them.
Frank even lived out his life in my 55 gallon tank with my coy and bottom feeder fish. I think he loved it.
:)

Are sure he's 2 weeks old?? He'd be just a tiny guy smaller than half an M&M. Bettas are generally 6 months to a year old when you get them. (They are big a pretty until 6 months or more.) Generally they live to be over 3 years old with good care. Some live for over 5 years, but that's pretty rare. You should do some reading on taking care of a betta.

I have a Betta named Archie. I love him muchly. My friend gave him to me for Chirstmas, and he has lived on my desk (in a vase, of course) since then. My friend had a Betta that lived for three years. My sister has had about ten Bettas that have lived for a combined total of about a month and a half (she's not so much a fish person, so she's moved onto dogs, Lord help them). I've heard that if Bettas start to swim sideways, then they have contracted a disease that can be treated with stuff that you can buy at a pet store. Luckily, Archie just swims normally and gets excited when I shake his food. He has a plant that he loves to swim around. When I was younger we had a Betta with a goldfish, and they pretty much ignored eachother. We also had a stripey snake-like fish (appropiatly named Stripes) with a Betta, and they got on quite well until Stripes ended up down the drain during a routing aquarium cleaning (or at least that's what my dad told me).

I have owned 4 of these magnificent fish. One male, who's name was Yoritomo, I had to give away because of a move, a female, who's name was Maddie, was an extremely smart girl, and was in the process of learning to jump to take food from my hands, and jump through a hoop, decided to jump out of the tank. Needless to say, don't ever teach your Betta how to jump, unless the bowl/tank is well covered. I still have a male, named Crush, who I recently purchased. He is in the process of getting a new, bowl, because I broke his old one. My surviving female, Tessie, was bought as a "girlfriend" for my brother's Betta, and their relationship didn't last long. She moved out on him, and got herself a 2.5 gallon tank. Then, when Maddie died, she moved in with a frog and two Platies.
How big is your Betta? I didn't know they sold them when they were 2 weeks old...
They usually live to be about 2 to 3. Some Bettas have lived to be 5, and even 10. Just remember those water changes. I do mine once a week, sometimes more. They are great pets, good luck, and enjoy your little guy! (or girl)

I have a Betta (I think it's Chinese fighting fish btw). They live to be 2-3 years old, but some can live several years.
They're cute, and easy to take care of. Mine was happy with just gravel and a bridge.
I hope you love your fish, I've had mine for 2 yrs. now.

I had a beta fish, Joe, for 2 years until he was overfed by a fish-sitter while I was visiting my cousins.
I currently have a beta fish, Uncle Mervin Zhivago who is about 2 months old.
My sister's beta, Rocky, died when he was about 6 months old because of paint exposure.
My other sister's female beta, Jessica, died about 3 days ago. She was about 4 months ago.
BTW = There are called by many names, Siamese Fighting Fish is correct as well as Chinese.

maximum bettas will stay with different fish, yet a three gallon tank is merely large adequate for a million betta. you want a minimum of 10 gallons in case you want different fish with the betta. Dont pay interest to those who say a betta will kill any fish you install with it. My betta is in a sixty 5 gallon tank with a lot of fish. a number of which contain 14 guppies. He hasn't ever attacked any of them.
