Is there anything wrong with having a tank large enoguh to fit 8 fish in and put them in. Putting them in on the same day. Also you can get chimicals like water safe and you can use a gravel cleaner to clean the tanks stones. Do you use both of these products while the fish in the tank.

they were fine this morning when i fed them and when i got home about 10 hours later they have a slimy looking film on their heads and eyes and kind of look they their bodies are pealing, they act slow i guess would be the way to put it. they have spots on their boddies that looks like the skin(?) will just flake off.

I've had my betta for less than a year, but I have never had a problem with him. Generally a very nice, active, healthy betta that blows bubble nests everytime I change his water. However, we recently put 3 small cory cats in with him and his snail. One of them was crazy from the start, but took awhile to die. After it did, I did a water change, put in water treatment, and a few drops of Betta fix just in case. Now, 2 days later - I noticed he had blown a bubblenest.... but it has a strange red/orange color to it. I then noticed the other 2 cory fish dead - which blew me away. My boyfriend first thought maybe he ate them and it was blood in his bubbles.... (haha!), but after looking at the bodies - it doesn't seem that way. I haven't been able to observe him much, since he lives at my boyfriends - but tonight he was laying around the bottom of the tank and being very innactive. I'm hoping he's not sick....

Any ideas? Anyone ever heard of colored bubblenests?

i currently have had my betta in his 5 gallon tank for about 7 months. his tankmate is one apple snail for algae control.
it currently has a 15 watt light bulb, i think its incandescant.

could i change this to a planted tank for my betta?

can i use the same gravel?
do i need some sort of mini flourescant light bulb?it only holds one.( its a hex tank)
and what kind of plants are cheap and can live without a heater?

thanks

Alright, my family and I bought a new betta fish and a half bowl to house it in. I know betta fish don't need much because of the containers they come in and my knowledge of them already. All we have in the bowl is some gravel and a small plant. The half bowl is about 1 gallon.

My mom bought it to make our dining table look "decorative". I feel bad because I have another betta and he's in a 10 gallon aquarium and he's very happy. I don't think my mom wants to add a filter or anything like that because she doesn't want any cords and stuff on the table. I understand that she wants to make the table look nice, but then you have to think about how the fish will live. I just think it's unfair.

Can anyone help me with this predicament?

He's hiding in corners of the tank and just being lifeless until feeding time. I have a 55 gal tank that he shares with 5 angels, 3 cory cats, and some tetras. I know that it's a male because I had bought 2 of them when I started with a 10 gal and they fought and I had to give one away. Anyways, my angels don't bother him so he's not getting picked on, so what is his problem? My tank has live plants and 2 pieces of driftwood, subtrate and gravel, and a bubble shield in the
back. I do partial water changes and keep it at a steady temp. Maybe he's bored or lonely? What can I do?
