You need to make sure your tank is 'cycled' before you add fish. This can take awhile.
Search for 'fishless cycling' and learn how to do it.
If you dont, your fish could all die from Ammonia or Nitrite poising.
The first thing you need to buy is a fresh water test kit.
As a rule of thumb, only one goldfish per 10 gallons of water,as Gold fish are very dirty fish.
There is a great goldfish group to join to learn, all are welcome

-Minimum 20 gallons per goldfish
-1 pound of gravel per 1 gallon of water
-Use a filter 2x the size you normally need (if you have a 20 gallon tank, don't by the 10-20gallon sized filter, by at least the 30-40 sized, if not bigger. Goldfish are dirty.)
-Fill tank with water using a water dechlorinator
-No heater- goldfish like it cool
-Strong aeration- try a bubble rod or several airstones
-Add some liquid bacterial supplement to jump start the bacteria filter
-Try some sturdy live plants to help keep the water oxygenated
-Let the tank run for about 2 weeks with the filters, lights, air stones, etc. as though there were fish in it. 4 weeks is better if you can.
-Buy the smallest goldfish you can find that's still the type of fish you want to keep and put him in the tank.
-Monitor the ammonia levels. A slight spike is normal, it takes a while for the bacteria filter to convert the ammonia to nitrates and nitrites. After about a week, add more liquid bacteria.
-Wait at least 1 month before adding more fish- the longer you wait, the safer it'll be.
-Large snails can be helpful in cleaning up after messy goldfish.
-Never mix goldfish with any tropical fish

Get your tank set up (20 gallons minimum), rinse the gravel in sink, put the gravel in the tank, wash any decorations, put the decorations in the tank, add water, add filter, add dechlorinating chemicals, run the tank for 2 days, go get fish (no more than 3 fancy, no more than 5 common), float the bags of fish in the tank with the lights off, after 20 minutes, let the Goldfish swim into their new home (do not net them, and do not force them from the bag). Have fun with them!

Setting up for goldfish is not different than for any other typical community set up really. The only real difference is that the goldfish don't require a heater. Here's a link to a page that will guide you through the process step by step

Hope that helps

if you are buying goldfish you have to buy a tank put rocks at the bottom because the food goes at the bottom right and it goes on the rocks so the fish can eat the food on the rocks then you have to put some plants in it so it will look cool and you can put hideaways so the fish can hide
