Try looking:

under the ornaments

inside the filter

up under the part of the filter where the water comes out

behind the plants

between/under rocks and driftwood

inside the filer tube

between the glass cover and the light

on the floor (including under the tank if it's on a stand and under any neayby furnature)

in the gravel (some fish are burrowers)

inside the cat or dog or bigger fishy (will require an X-ray machine)

(it might help to know what kind of fish we're looking for - some do some pretty odd things when they're trying to play hide and seek!)

I was sitting out by the creek earlier. This little boat went by, with a big fish sitting in it, smoking a cigar and holding a fishing pole and listening to a portable radio. I think that was your fish.
