I would have to agree here. If you have a smaller tank (under 55) don't bother with the automated vac. Even larger tanks don't need an automatic vac it does make the job a bit easier however.
If you have the money go for it. Just be careful not to remove too much water while cleaning.

well i had an automated one, and it sucked! personally, i like the python. makes water changes and gravel cleaning very easy, and the sink starts the siphon for you. if you want to spend a few extra bucks, i would get a python. plus the automated ones always need batteries...that means xtra $$. i heard that the eheim automated one is decent, but it's like $70 and it wont help with water changes

I would say it depends on the size of your tank. If you have a small tank, say under 30 gallons or so, I would recommend the regular gravel siphon. If you have a larger tank or if you have several tanks I would recommend a Python No Spill N Fill as the best option.

It depends on what works better for you! The python sink to tank vacuum is great! Less mess, easier to do water changes and vacuum your tank out, starting at $29.95 and up! This is good for larger and multiple tanks! Good luck!

Personnally I prefer the regular siphon, even that I have to suck on it, it is still better then the automated ones, and you constantly need batteries on them as well

Just get the one where you do it, it isn't worth it to spend the extra $20 to get one where you have to use batteries. It is really easy to create the vacuum for the siphon, look it up online and you will find directions... this site has instructions, http://www.firsttankguide.net/siphon.php

python is definitely the way to go. they have extensions in 25 and 50 feet i think. (not exactly sure)
they have parts that you can attach however many extensions you need to make it reach the sink.
